Free Music Notes for The Trinity SessionFree Music Review: A brand new fan adding his two cents Hit: 5 Stars
My buddy Bo recommended this album to me. I bought it outright more for fun than anything else. I wasn't expecting all that much to be honest, I never pay attention to reviews, preferring to make my own assessments. I have two words for this album, Holy * (I am sure you get the idea), no pun intended by the way. The starkness of this album is the soul of its beauty. The lead singer Margo Timmins voice is hauntingly sonorous, and her brothers and band are awe inspiring in the mastery of their instruments. I think it would have been one heck of a thing to be a witness to what happened in that church one merry night in November. It's the blues as it was meant to be, pure and unrefined.
Free Music Review: potent seduction music, or just mellowness... Hit: 5 Stars
It's too bad that the Junkies haven't put out anything nearly as good as this album ever since. Sure it's mostly derivative and unoriginal, but what's not to like about it? These guys basically take some classics and slow them down and soften them up even more, the music oozes out and hangs in the air majestically, rendering a suspended time sort of feeling, the notes and words float and linger before passing by followed by more of the same. The strongest songs are the ones with slow but steady driving melodies, like the cover of "Sweet Jane" which is a brilliant reinterpretation of Lou Reed's original.
Best with some candles, good red wine, and a delectable lady (or two) on your lap...
Free Music Review: great tone poem for late night Hit: 5 Stars
I read reviews before buying this (which I typically do not do before writing a comment) and mostly I agree...however I would give this a 4.5 for the following: The Cowboy's version of Waylon's "dreaming my dreams' so diminishes the melody its a missed opportunity--and the bass line is just plain out of synch with what this song requires....and on Hank Williams "I'm so lonesome I could cry" nobody changes Hank's lyrics...especially "lonesome SKY to Haze" which doesnt make the next stanza rhyme...there are two times when the harmonica comes in and its mixed way too loud --its jolting...I have to say that their take on Sweet Jane kinda makes up for those lapses....
Free Music Review: No Misguided Angels on this one Hit: 5 Stars
I also first heard "Sweet Jane" on radio, during a pleasant soak with a glass of semillon.Searched for weeks to get the vinyl (yes, that long ago). And what a magic collection this is. If you thought that listening to Percy Sledge or Aretha or Parvarotti or Piaf was listening to the voice of God, prepare yourself. The whole structure is loose, blue, soulsy cowboy, with more than a touch of junkie. And sung by an angel. In the words of Shakespeare: "An admirable musician! O, she will sing the savageness out of a bear." Too bad we can only rate up to 5 stars, I would have give many, many more for this excellent work.
Free Music Review: One of the best recording sessions in history Hit: 5 Stars
Many people have already commented positively about the singing and the lyrics of this fantastic album but I would also like to point out how well it is recorded. Simply put... the recording quality of the Trinity Sessions is superior to any non-audiophile label and most audiophile label CDs. If you want to really hear how good your stereo sounds this is the CD for it. The simple, artifact free recording to DAT with no maxing save for moving musicians closer and further from the microphone means that this CD has an amazingly pure sound. If you buy a $1000-$1,000,000 stereo system this is the one to show to your friends.
