Free Music Notes for To the Faithful Departed

Free Music Review: When the Cranberries explored new territory... and succeeded
Hit: 5 Stars

I really enjoy the Cranberries and their music. Their light guitar songs and precious melodies. But most of all what draws me to them is Dolore's amazing voice. It is truly unique and I can't get enough of it.

On To the Faithful Departed, the Cranberries stray away from their first two albums and truthfully I couldn't be more happy. I am very surprised that many fans don't find this appealing. I am a general rock fan and anyone who likes rock will like this CD. Maybe this review is biased because I have a love of rockier songs but this is what I believe, the best of the Cranberries. Here is my review song by song:

1. Hollywood 5/5- This song bears a striking resemblence to "Zombie", their smash hit. I especially love Dolore's extended vocals at the end of the song, truly amazing!

2. Salvation 5/5- This was one of the singles off the album and did fairly well. This is another rocker and Dolores' gives her opinions of drug usage. Her "uh-huh-uh-huh" add a sing-a-long flavor to it.

3. When You're Gone 3/5- I like this song but it's not really one of my favorites. I love the beginning with the "doobie da doobie da" but it seems a little too familiar.

4. Free to Decide 5/5- Another single. Probably the second best song on the CD. It's not a harder song just kind of simple. It resembles alot of the slower songs from No Need to Argue but sends a great message too.

5. War Child 4.5/5- Dolores tells a story in this song. As most know she is a pacifist. There's not much instrument in this song. Some disagree with the politicalness of it, but who can't agree on peace?

6. Forever Yellow Skies 4/5- A pretty solid song. Major drums and guitar here and sounds great with Dolore's voice.

7. The Rebels 6/5!!- By far my favorite song on the album. This song is great. The main reason I love it is the quiet stillness throughout the verses and then a burst of energy when the chorus arrives. About Dolore's teenage years in Ireland.

8. I Just Shot John Lennon 3/5- Another kind of odd song from the album. It seems Dolores had great respect for John Lennon and the Beatles in general. She expresses her anger of his murder over a fast-paced guitar.

9. Electric Blue Eyes 4/5- A perfect song for this album. It's eerie and mysterious and the chorus is sung in Italian. Very great touch.

10. I'm Still Remembering 3.5/5- A song about the deaths and tragedies mainly Dolores has overcome. She mentions her wedding day and Kurt Cobain's death. Very touching song.

11. Will You Remember? 1/5- I don't particulary find this song appealing at all. The celtic flavor really doesn't appeal to me.

12. Joe 2/5- I'm not too keen on this song. A little slower ballad type song.

13. Bosnia 5/5- Another song I really enjoy. A bit political once again on the topic of war. I love the break in the song and the lyrics "When do the saints go marching in?"
