Free Music Notes for Chronicle, Vol. 1: The 20 Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Classic Swamp Rock "MUST HAVE" Hit: 5 Stars
If there is a single Classic Rock disc to own, this would be it. When you consider this music provided the soundtrack to the Vietnam War, you might consider buying it to be owning a bit of history. Go back up above and read down those song titles. Do you have any fond memories associated with any of them? My problem, at age 56, is that I have a fond memory associated with EVERY ONE OF THEM.
Now CCR plays music that's pretty accessible to everyone that hears it, but when you go below that layer, the things that make the songs stand up for all these years is dynamic songwriting and kickass musicianship across the board.
If you don't believe me, pick up the concert DVD by John Fogerty: The Long Road Home and SEE these hits performed. I believe it's impossible to be unaffected by what you see and hear there. He still performs his music with that 'fire in the belly' you like to see in older musicians.
So back to this disc... he originally recorded these in his 20's. Imagine the 'fire in the belly' factor then...
This one is good stuff. You need to own it.
Free Music Review: Creedence Clearwater Revival - The best band ever!! Hit: 5 Stars
If you want to get the best and the bulk of CCR, make no other choice! You definetly, DEFINETLY need this album. There's no question in my mind that any '60s music fan should do without it! From their cover of the 1957 Dale Hawkins' tune "Susie Q", which by the way CCR's renidition is the best especially with the infectious drumbeats at the beginning, to "Someday Never Comes' which was one of their last gold singles. Every song is essential and a top-grade classic! Turn the volume up on "Up Around the Bend" to show everyone that Classic Rock is the best! This album has been certified a multi-platinum status. I don't know what the sales are, but if this album keeps selling strong here on Amazon.com, it will be, in my opinion, one of the greatest rock'n'roll albums ever! Their 11 minute renidition of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" is the best next to Marvin Gaye's and Gladys Knight and the Pips' versions. It is a feast for the ears from a band that drove the musical audience back to good ol' American rock'n'roll! 'Tis a shame they never had a #1 hit, but they've come pretty close many times!
Free Music Review: love this very much Hit: 5 Stars
I love pretty much all of these songs. I wish they put "born on the bayou" and "midnight special" on here but oh well. I bought this about 3 years ago when I was 16 and pretty much played it till I got sick of it then played it some more just because its great. This is literally the only cd I own that I think all the songs are good. The amazing thing is that one band could have so many great songs. Some bands are lucky if they make one memorable song. I think you could play "Proud Mary" or "Bad Moon Rising" to anyone and they could say they have heard that song or sing some lines from it. I think john fogerty is a brilliant man I wish I could go into his head and walk around for a while who knows what kind of songs he's hiding in there. So yes buy this I think you'll like it. the songs are simple but brilliant. Try it out the worst that could happen is you don't like it,though I doubt it, and you could give it to someone else, they would thank you I am sure.
Free Music Review: "Do not listen to this CD while operating a motor vehicle!" Hit: 5 Stars
The songs on this CD are probably responsible for more speeding tickets than beer and women. This is "rip off your head and spit in the hole" rock and roll with "Proud Mary", "Bad Moon Rising", "Traveling Band" and an 11 minute version of "I Heard It Through the Gravevine" to help you cool off after dancing to this music. (You will dance even if you are two days dead)The one notable missing song from this CD is "Born on the Bayou" which can be easily remedied by ordering volume two of these chronicles at the same time you are ordering volume one. While you are in a shopping mood, I would highly recommend John Fogerty's newer works, notably "Blue Moon Swamp", "Centerfield" etc. His voice has lost a little of that "gritty" sound that we love so well, but he still rates 4&1/2 stars compard to what else is available these days.
Free Music Review: alive from the swamps Hit: 5 Stars
Far form being a hard rock band, CCR is as thrilling as rock n' roll can be.
It's fantastic to see how they projected them selves and made hit after hit(altlhough they never had a # 1, instead, 5 # 2 hits)during 1968-1971. They captured what most of the youngster were feeling and thinking about at that time.
It's simply irresistible the sound of John Fogerty guitar smooth, while he moans his throat out such classics as Fortunate son, Up around the band (great guitar intro), Suzie Q,
Proud Mary, Green river, Down on the corner, Sweet hitch hiker, Hey tonight, and so on... everything here is great, that's why i forsake the one who made the compilation for leaving Born on the Bayou, It's just a thought and Midnight special.
CCR never had the intention to be "rockstars", but they will always be cool. Pure and honest rock n' roll bouncing.
Put on your snake trousers and let it rolling down the river...
