Free Music Notes for Chronicle Vol. 2: Twenty Great CCR Classics

Free Music Review: mediocre
Hit: 2 Stars

I scanned all the reviews here on Amazon before buying Chronicle Vol 2. I'd been inspired by hearing "Walk on Water" many times on Amazon and decided to buy the collection instead of CCR's eponymous first album. That was a mistake.
This collection clearly appeals to committed fans, as is true for nearly all reviews I see on Amazon. I found it mediocre, at best. "Walk on Water" has passion, a wide vocal range and nice changes of pace. The rest of this 2 CD set is forgettable.

Feel free to mark this review as "not useful" -- I do it often myself when reviews are not informative. Sorry if this review offends your sensibilities but it's not a vote on whether CCR was a great band: it was, and John Fogerty's put out some good stuff since.

For the casual fan, get the original Chronicle (Vol 1) and enoy.

Free Music Review: Disappointing
Hit: 2 Stars

Chronicle was a let down for me. I guess Chronicle 1 had almost all of the best Credence songs. I actually bought this album for the song "Midnight Special" with the hope that the other songs would be as good or better. It had a lot of cover songs that I don't think they did particularly well.

Free Music Review: 5 stars, Not as good as Vol 1 but classic nonetheless,
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm going to take a different approach to reviewing albums on Amazon. Instead of going in depth on each album and describe each album in detail, i'm going to simply rate each album with how many stars I feel each album is worth based on the below criteria. I hope this helps you make a better decision on purchasing this album with a simple individual rating. If it doesn't help read another review.
5 stars- Classic, Album goes beyond description, Perfect in every way, Could remind you of a certain time or place, Lifetime replay value.
4.5 stars- Near Classic, Incredible album, Maybe only one song that is skippable or just overall doesn't quite deserve classic status. High replay value.
4.0 stars- Awesome album. Very solid album from start to finish. Met every expectation and more. Maybe only one song or two that is skippable or just doesnt' quite deserve a classic or near classic rating. High replay value.
3.5 stars- Above average album. Solid from start to finish but there are a few songs worth skipping. Met expectations, minimal replay value.
3.0 stars- Average album. Nothing bad but nothing great either. After the initial appeal will collect dust.
2.5 stars- Major disappointment. You had high expectations that were ruined as this album is not good at all. There might be only one or two songs worth listening to. No replay value.
2.0 stars- Below average album. This album doesnt bother you to hear as background music but you would rather not listen to it if you didnt have to. No songs really appeal. No replay value.
1.5 stars- Terrible album. Makes one sick to hear it. No songs really appeal but there might be one song that you could stand to hear. Would rather throw in garbage than even waste space in your collection.
1.0 stars- Makes one cringe and the ears bleed!
*keep in mind, each album review might not be based on opinion of the band but the album itself in the bands discography.

Free Music Review: A very pleasant surprise.
Hit: 4 Stars

I bought this in addition to Chronicle Vol. 1, because I wanted "Born On The Bayou" & "The Midnight Special." As compared to Vol. 1, more of the songs on Vol. 2 are covers of songs by writers other than John Fogerty, & I was less familiar with the CCR covers of those songs than I was with those written by John Fogerty. I really liked most of their covers. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover a few John Fogerty originals that I didn't know from my youth that were really good. As a true CCR fan, I'm happy I have Vol. 2, but Vol. 1 is more reliable as a general sampling of CCR. Still, I recommend Vol. 2 to anyone who is willing to accept a few (& I don't mean many) songs on a CD that won't really flip their switch mixed in with some truly classic songs.

Free Music Review: How do you put Born on the Bayou on this CD?
Hit: 3 Stars

Chronicles 2 is the second installment of Creedence Clearwater's greatest hits.
Chronicles 2 has many great songs, its just not the best of CCR'
What really amazes me is......it is very obvious that they left Born on the Boyou off of Chronicles so they had a hook to get you to buy this second edition. It may or not be good business but it is dishonest.
If you want the best of CCR get Chronicles....if you want great songs, but not the very best, get this.
John Fogerty is so good and CCR was so good, you will still enjoy this CD.
