Free Music Review: Mardi Gras...CCR At Twilight.

Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1972 Swan Song. Reached #12 on the Billboard charts in the summer of that year. I like this album. The only song I really do not care for is Stu Cook's 'Take It Like A Friend'. He makes up for it with 'Door To Door'. They did a great rendition of that tune on the 'Live In Europe' CD. Doug Clifford's tunes are ok too. They sort have that same attitude that he used on his solo LP,'Doug 'Cosmo' Clifford', also released in 1972. It is uncanny that when you listen to Doug Clifford's voice, sometimes he sounds like 'Gabby Johnson' screaming down from the roof in the Mel Brooks flick 'Blazing Saddles'. I love 'Lookin' For A Reason' and the remake of 'Hello Mary Lou'. The best track is John Fogerty's 'Someday Never Comes'. As the perfectly suitable final single, it reached #25 on the charts. It's an ethereal way to end the journey of Creedence Clearwater Revival. The cover art is wonderful. In fact, it is one of my all time favorite album jackets. The original embossed LP slick has a nice texture to it. Very "Early 1970's". The album has that same 'End Of Summer' atmosphere as 'Farther Along' (The Byrds), 'Let It Be' (The Beatles), 'Changes' (The Monkees) etc. Good stuff.
