Free Music Notes for CSNY/Deja Vu LiveFree Music Review: The Green Blowfish Hit: 2 Stars
If you want a third rehash (Living with War, Living with War - In the Beginning and now this CD) of Neil's 2006 solo album - this will be your cup of tea. I'm not looking forward to the fourth attempt at trying to pry my money for essentially the same product (the DVD).
If you don't like Stephen Stills - I'd certainly purchase this just to look at the absolutely horrid photo of him inside. I'm guessing he did not select it (envision a constipated green blowfish exhaling while under duress). I'm guessing Stephen did not get a vote on that picture and I also suspect he and Neil aren't getting along (yet again).
The tour was a ** out of ***** tour and should have been called "Neil Young and his famous backup band" (and Neil is my favorite solo artist and the one artist I would see live above all others and have well over a dozen times).
Deja Vu was an absolutely wonderful CD and anyone who has not heard it should purchase it. This particular selection rates somewhere near the bottom third of the pack when one takes the Crosby, Nash, Stills and Young works (including solo) under consideration as a whole. For the completist only.
Even the Deja Vu song itself does not compare to the other versions of the song on Deja Vu, The Bridge School, Crosby Nash Live, the alternate version on Crosby's Voyage etc.
Unless and until the other three are treated as equals - I'm passing on the next tour. I'd rather see them solo at this point (where they don't sell themselves out for the tour $$$$$ as they have since they 'reformed').
Neil - bring back the Horse......
Free Music Review: Yawn Hit: 2 Stars
Been here done this 10000 times before. I love CSNY and would rate them now as I have for the past 25+ years as one of my three favorite bands of all time (along with Zep and Floyd). Their studio and live (officially released and otherwise) albums of the late 60's to the mid 70's were outstanding and relevent and creative. But lets face it folks, since the LONG awaited reunion album American Dream came out, CSNY have been nothing short of a disappointment. They as a group (Neil's music as a solo artist is still listenable to this day) should for the good of mankind, disperse and never come back again. The last listenable album that CSN/CSNY produced was Daylight Again, since then the horse has been so beaten to death that theres nothing left to club but dust! Come on guys, I hope you don't actually need the money that bad. I mean, how many versions of Teach Your Children does humanity actually require? For that matter, how many greatest hits albums can one band release? What does CSN/Y have now, 5 greatest hits albums/complilations/box sets? Please stop already, your embarrissing yourselves, boring the heck out of us and relentlessly tarnishing your once Godlike stature. Enough is enough.
Free Music Review: Where's Stills? Hit: 2 Stars
Im a big CSN&Y fan since the 60's but this is not CSN&Y it's Neil Young and his friends. My political views are my own so I will only comment on the music. All the new songs are Youngs and they are all anti-war songs and thats fine if you like that. I love the actual music but the words sound child like to me. Crosby and Nash's songs were great but where is Stills? You only really hear him on "For What It's Worth"!
To me this is a Neil Young anti-war anti-Bush and his band (CSN) to help. I'd love to hear a true CSN&Y concert with all 4 members as equal partners. Old and new songs!
Free Music Review: Déjà Vu ??? Hit: 2 Stars
This is NOT the "Déjà Vu" album played live as you might be led to think! It is most of Neil Young's protest-album "Living with war" played live! It's not at all what I expected from the title. I feel I've been conned this time. I hold the "Déjà Vu" album to be one of the best ever! It's as fresh today as it was 38 years ago! This is yet another cd that tells you that they are over-priced, but so cheap to make they shouldn't cost more that 5$ at the most. And that might also reduce home-burning cd's.
Free Music Review: This is not CSNY this is Neil Young Hit: 2 Stars
The majority of the material on this is from Neils "Living With War" which although I agree with the ideology of the cd, it never made the cut the rawness was not there, the anger was not there, it was not like Neils "Rockin in The Free World" with all of the angst. This cd does not reflect CSNY it reflects Neils even if all of the band members agreed 100% with Neil, there are far to few CSNY songs. Or how about some of Stills,Nash or Crosbys solo songs . Sorry have to pass on this one of my all time favorite bands.
