Free Music Review: This Supergroup's Best Album Got Better
Hit: 5 Stars

"Deja Vu" has always been my favorite album by CSN, because of the contribution of Neil Young. He added "Helpless" and my favorite song of the album, "Country Girl," which is essentially three songs thematically linked, in the manner of McCartney on the second side of "Abbey Road." Young also adds another layer of harmony to the already rich voices of Crosby, Stills and Nash. Moreover, this album showcases Stills and Nash at the peak of their talent as songwriters, with songs such as "4 + 20," "Carry On" and "Teach Your Children." As good as this album was, however, it always suffered from a lack of clarity in the voices and the instruments. Many albums released during this period used random equalization which compressed the sound and removed the detail. This remastered album corrects the sound quality of the original album in many ways. The lead and bass guitars are now defined and separate, the lush voices are richer and more distinct, and the overall sound has better imaging. Listen, for example, to the clear harpsichord in "Our House" and Stills' spare acoustic guitar and remarkable voice in "4 + 20." This album is a classic, and it is all the more listenable because it was remastered so well.

Free Music Review: A timeless classic rock masterpiece!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Deja Vu" is a timeless masterpiece of classic rock! It's the crowning achievement of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSN&Y), arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Much of their fame and durability over the past 30 years can be traced to this album, which was originally released on vinyl in 1970. It contains some of their most outstanding and famous songs, including the rock anthems "Carry On" and "Woodstock," David Crosby's tongue-in-cheek "Almost Cut My Hair," Stephen Stills' forlorn ballad "4 + 20," and the personal favorite of both my wife and me: "Our House." Every song shows CSN&Y's tremendous dynamism, versatility and musical maturity. Superbly intelligent lyrics, great guitar riffs (especially Greg Reeves' bass riff in the song "Deja Vu"), beautifully crafted harmonies, and Dallas Taylor's sizzling percussion all converge to make every song on this digitally remastered CD a rock masterpiece.

"Deja Vu" is one of the landmark albums of all time. It's also one of my personal favorites, and an essential CD, not only for fans of CSN&Y, but for all fans of rock and roll music.

Free Music Review: There Best By Far!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best album Crosby, Stills, Nash, and/or Young ever made. It is a great folk/rock classic. The lyrics are deep, the harmonies are nice and smooth, and the guitar playing is the best its ever been by Stephen Stills and Neil Young.

This is a very late sixties early seventies type album. Its got protest songs (Almost Cut My Hair), I mean how cool is that. and it has one of the greatest songs ever written, 'Woodstock' the harmonies, and guitars, and the chorus are just flat out awesome. 'Carry On' is the greatest folk/rock song ever made! 'Deja Vu' is another really great song, and its the title track for good reason, its a really great song! 'Our House' is another radio hit from the album. Other stand outs include 'I Love You All'

This was almost like four solo albums in one. Deja Vu was to CSNY what the White Album was to The Beatles. It was all four members making solo songs. The only two songs the band recorded together were 'Carry On' and 'Woodstock' which happend to be the two best songs on the album. This was a very important rock album in the history of rock, never before or after were the band this tight, even though only two of the songs on the album were recorded as a band.

Free Music Review: Rock Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

For the release of Deja Vu, the already powerful trio of Crosby, Still & Nash became even better by adding a fourth, Neil Young. The album is a great collection of songs, played by artits at the peak of their powers. Although some of the themes (i.e. "Almost Cut My Hair") are heavily dated, CSN&Y's harmonies are timeless. Their vocalizing on "Our House", "Teach Your Children" and Neil Young's brilliant "Helpless" is absolutely gorgeous. The album brings forward each of the members' individual stylings from Stills' folk-rock to Nash's ballads to Young's country-rock to Crosby's hippie-rock and blends them seemlessly on the album. "Carry On" opens the album with a kick, "Deja Vu" adeptly captures Crosby's state of mind at the time, "4+20" is a short but powerful song and the scorching "Woodstock" is the hippie generation's anthem. It would be 7 years before CSN would release a studio album and almost another 20 before the quartet would release one(the awful American Dream). They never again would match the creative and commercial power of this album.

Free Music Review: REJOICE! REJOICE!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album has been part of the fabric of my life for thirty years now. Few records are quite so perfect from beginning to end as this one. It has what I believe are some the best songs ever written by these artists--Stephen's triumphant "Carry On", and his anguished and poignant "4&20"; Graham's lovely "Teach Your Children" and "Our House", David's "Almost Cut My Hair" (a signature tune if there ever was one) and the wonderfully trippy "Deja Vu"; Neil's near-operatic "Country Girl" and the exquisite "Helpless", one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful pieces of popular music ever. . .But DEJA VU doesn't stop with the songs. The sublime moments are seemingly endless--the guitar duelling on "Woodstock", the majestic climax to "Country Girl", the hazy, scatty intro to the title track, Jerry Garcia's wistful steel guitar on "Teach Your Children". . .and of course the gorgeous harmonies throughout. Man oh man, has this music enriched my life, and it will continue to do so for as long as I draw breath. . .and hopefully beyond.
