Free Music Review: A Good Compliation of CSN songs
Hit: 4 Stars

All I can say is that I didn't grow up in the 60s and my husband and I proudly serve in the military. I have a brother who is 6 years older than me, and well, while growing up he introduced me to a variety of music, while learning to play guitar. Because of my brother's influence in my life I have become a walking jukebox, there aren't many songs I don't know, even beyond the popular. I love music. I even have a couple CSN records from back in the day. With that said, I think this is a great CD. It has the most good songs on it than all the other albums. Part of the reason I did not give it five stars is because I think another disc of songs could have been added. Also due to my own personal tastes there is only a couple of songs I don't like on this CD and that I would have exchanged for songs that are on other albums. Just about every one of the CSN CD's have something good on them, even if it is only one song on the entire album. This CD has the most but not all of the good stuff. If you go digging you'll see what I mean. If you are looking for more, you may want to add "Daylight Again" and "CSN" to your collection. This Greatest Hits CD is a good album to get because it has the most good songs on it and would be good gift for a CSN, classic rock, or newly introduced fan.

Free Music Review: The Best of CSN, not their Greatest Hits
Hit: 4 Stars

I consider myself a dedicated fan, having every CSN album, save one and having seen them in concert twice. I don't mean to be critical of a great group, but I would have like to see a compilation of their singles in chronological order. A number of cuts on this album were never released as singles, nor were they "hits" in any meaningful sense of that word. So the title is misleading. It seems this is Graham Nash's compilation from what the liner notes tell us. Apparently, Neil Young is not viewed as a member of the group, (this is a CSN album) and his material, most notably "Ohio" is omitted, while various other tracks, were included. The liner notes remind us of how much CSN owes to Steve Stills' musical leadership. I'm personally offended by Nash's "Cathedral" and the album cover artwork isn't appealing, but, overall, the music is great, the harmonies soar and the musicianship is first rate.

Free Music Review: This Was Bound to Happen
Hit: 4 Stars

Darn near everbody releases a G/H package eventually, so it's hard to criticize these guys for it. The fact is though for the limited amount of product CSN has put out there over so many years, most fans and even so-so fans probably have most of CSN's stuff in their collections. But judging it "for what it's worth", this is a pretty good song set. It's kinda nice to see some of Crosby's tunes on here. as he seems to get kicked to the curb sometimes. Personally, I wound have traded off 49 bye-Byes for Deja Vu, if for no other reason but to even it up even more. And it would have been nice to get the live version of Long Time Gone from the Four Way Street album, which really rocks and comes across more passionate than the rather tame studio version. But, just my wishful thinking...

Free Music Review: This collection is just right.
Hit: 4 Stars

I've actually been waiting a long time for this disc to be released. Their vinyl era "So Far" collection was just too little, and the 2-disc "Carry On" set was of course too much, and expensive. This however is perfect at 19 tracks, and remastered. Most everything that should be here is, and I'm really happy to see "Wasted On The Way" and "Southern Cross" included. Also, as much as I love Neil Young, I'm glad this is just Crosby Stills & Nash. I do wish their version of "Woodstock" was on here, but it was a Joni Mitchell song. Though it's long overdue, it's a great hits album, and will be played quite often at "Our House".

Free Music Review: Some hits and some album cuts
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a nice collection, but not really a "Greatest Hits" album. It would be better titled "Some Hits and Album Cuts" because it leaves off so many of their charting singles and includes many songs from their albums that were never released as singles. I would have liked to have seen a few songs from their later albums. While they may not have been their strongest efforts, they contained at least a few songs that were strong enough to include here. Who knows, maybe they are saving some of those songs and hits to release on a "Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young's Greatest Hits" in a year or two.
