Free Music Review: Excellent First Album

I gave this item 5 stars because i loved it, but that isn't to say it is perfect (although it is close). My complaints are only complaints about the production of the album. First of all, somebody else said the drums sounded a little flat. I definitely agree with that, but it isn't too bad. Probably the only reason i noticed it is because i am a drummer. The guitars, I also noticed, are not very defined in several songs. Due to the way the album was recorded, they sort of blend together and can become a little hard to pick out from everything else (only in a couple of songs mind you).
Now, on to the actual music. This reminds me a lot of Breaking Benjamin (my favorite band) but the drums, guitars, and overall feel are a little faster. The vocals are intense, that's really the only way to say it. To the people whining about the rap, you need to get your ears checked...there is no rap on this album. There are parts that some people might try to label as rap, but they still have a melodic sound to them and go well with the music. The vocalist obviously has the ability to take things up a notch and do some serious screaming, but it seems like he is holding back in Death Trend Setta in particular. That's alright, we'll wait for the next album.
I think every song on this album is great, but two that i dont really love are Starless (not sure why, it just doesnt strike me as being up to par with the others) and The Unknown (a very soft song song at the end, me and soft dont agree). Notably awesome songs include So Far Away, No Giving Up (my personal favorite), Death Trend Setta, Disco (some people think this song is weird, i dont really see why...it's just a good rock song), Colors, and The Deep End. That is not to say that Cold and Dead Skin are not good. They are great. I have just heard Cold so much on the radio that i got a little tired of it, and Dead Skin is a softer song. There are also people complaining that the cursing is all edited...ignore them, it's 4 words which are barely discernable anyways.
The one thing that really made this album grab me so much after i bought it were the lyrics. They are all written by the band, which is admirable these days. But the lyrics themselves are just so meaningful, heartfelt, and easy to relate to. Songs like Cold, No Giving Up, and So Far Away will definitely make you think.
If you want an album you can listen to all the way through every time, definitely pick up Crossfade. It is more than worth the money.
