Free Music Notes for Recurring Dream: The Very Best Of Crowded HouseFree Music Review: Long live Crowded House Hit: 5 Stars
It's an old Crowded House cliché, but `Don't Dream Its over', `Weather with you' and `Fall at your feet'. What do they all have in common among other things? The phrase "You know more Crowded House songs then you think" comes to mind and has been used many a time. The thing about Crowded House is that the more you think I can name 10 bands that are similar- the more you can't and the more unique they become. They have lived their careers nicely in the limelight without becoming overly commercial but then not falling behind at the same time.A real fan's band with a family of friends around the world, Crowded House are the best thing to come out of Australia since.....well lets just say I'm not too hot on all things Australian. Reoccurring Dream brings together the best of their previous four albums. Not sure how they done it really since they should have released all four albums in a four CD pack. There must have been some arguments on what was to be left out. I can think of at least 2 songs on each of the other albums that would have been on the not so shortlist. Neil Finn seems to write songs for fun. The things that come easy for him in each observation and use of imagery may not be so easy for others. It seems everything he touches has his name written all over it and the originality is scary each time he puts pen to paper. `Four Seasons in one Day', `Better be home soon' and `Instinct' are just a small taste of a collection of material which is only rivalled by the albums which proceeded it. There are new songs on it for the fans who have all the albums but this is Crowded House's farewell to the music world and was an appropriate release and not a money driven compilation. Long live messers Finn, Seymour, Hester and Hart. And as for the fans favourite songs? We haven't got time to do the poll and compile the results.
Free Music Review: Crowded With Hits Hit: 5 Stars
Australia's Crowded House is one of the most underrated bands of the late 80's and 90's. They experienced their biggest commercial success with their first, self-titled album. The album contained the superb single, the languid "Don't Dream It's Over" which peaked at number two in 1987. It was followed by the more upbeat, but equally superb "Something So Strong" which also hit the top ten peaking at number seven. The band would never again hit the top forty with a single. Their next album, The Temple Of Low Men, was a 180-degree turn from their first album. It was dark and somber with intensely personal songs that probably turned fans away. The excellent "Into Temptation" is the strongest track and "Better Be Home Soon" also rates highly. Leader Neil Finn starting writing songs with his brother, Tim Finn for a proposed Finn Brothers project. That idea was scraped, Tim joined the band and the songs were included on their third album, Woodface, which is their masterpiece. The strength of the album is the brother's flawless harmonies that a deep richness to the songs. "Weather With You" is the band's best song and was unjustly never the hit it deserved to be. During the Woodface tour, Tim, left the band and he would be replaced on the fourth album by American guitarist, Mark Hart. Together Alone added a heavier guitar sound as well as a Maori influence and features the excellent "Pineapple Head". The band broke up in 1996. Recurring Dreams is a fine overview of the band's music, amply filled out by nineteen tracks, three of which, "Not The Girl You Think You Are", "Instinct" & "Everything Is Good For You" are new. Highly recommended for hardcore fans, is a two-disk set with the second disk being a DVD which includes all the band's videos as well as an interview.
Free Music Review: Alternative Pop At Its Best Hit: 5 Stars
There's always a danger in listening to a project by an artist/group that you may have only heard one or two songs by: You may be in for a shock. For example, picture attending a KISS concert having only heard the song "Beth".
I was familiar with only two Crowded House songs before listening to this: "Something So Strong" and "Don't Dream It's Over." Was I in for a shock, or was this project a confirmation that Crowded House was a band I liked? The answer is the latter. In other words, if you like one Crowded House song, you'll enjoy the collection.
Some greatest hits projects are time capsules, starting with the first hit and moving to the most recent. Others blend the songs. This is in the latter category. The two songs I mentioned are respectively the 16th and 5th songs on the project, while I think chronologically they would be much closer if not next to each other.
As an ordained minister, I pay attention to the message. Sometimes in listening to a song, I sense something spiritual, and it takes a lot of times of listening to figure out if I'm right and if that message is compatible to my beliefs. "Don't Dream It's Over" is one such song, and I'm not sure where I fall. I do sense some thought, even some spiritual thought, popping out in the songs of Crowded House. I am not sure what page they are on. I have no idea of their theological leanings. I do know, though, that "Don't Dream It's Over" was covered by crossover Christian pop group Six Pence And None The Richer, which gives me the impression I'm not the only Christian who enjoys that song.
I would consider the genre of this group to be alternative pop. If you enjoy that style of music (as I do), then I would recommend you add this project to your collection.
Free Music Review: the return of crowded house..... Hit: 5 Stars
this band needs no intro....
this greatest hits shows the greatness of a band audio-wise but doesnt show their incredible live presence and on-stage banter that made them legends. Paul Hester sadly left us a few years ago but the news is out:

Crowded House Reform - Official Statement from the Band
Crowded House founders Neil Finn and Nick Seymour have confirmed that they will be putting the band back together, with plans for a new studio album and world tour.
Talking about the decision Neil said "After spending most of last year making music and hanging out with my friend Nick Seymour we are now announcing our intention to reform Crowded House with a new record entitled Time On Earth. It feels right to us that the band should re-emerge at this time and together with Mark Hart we look forward to reconnecting with the audience that we established and for whom we still hold a deep respect. We aim to make the upcoming shows and the new music every bit as vital and spirited as what has come before. We are conscious that Paul Hester was above all a great drummer and we are currently auditioning to find someone special to take that role."
The band is currently putting the finishing touches on the new album for release later in the year. Tour plans are yet to be announced but the band have confirmed they will play the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California USA along with Bjork, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Rage Against the Machine."
they are coming out with a new album this year (2007) and a new tour!!!!
GOD BLESS CROWDED HOUSE.....

Crowded House an Aussie band, Finn claims
24 October 2006
New Zealanders may love to claim Crowded House as their own but, sorry, Neil Finn says it was a Melbourne band.
Finn was one of the founding members of Crowded House and big brother Tim later joined but Neil told The Age newspaper the band's roots were Australian.
"Melbourne was the birthplace of Crowded House and was always the town we chose to return to. It's forever deeply ingrained in our collective psyche and was the backdrop for many of our best musical moments."
Finn was speaking to the newspaper from London after Crowded House was given an Age EG Music Award after an online poll of 37,000 people.
He said the band's drummer Paul Hester, who committed suicide last year, was from Melbourne and it was sad he was not around "to be reminded once more that Melbourne loved him too".
The other founding member, bass player Nick Seymour, was also an Australian.
BAck to the subject this cd even thoe not in the best song order highlights some of the best work. This cd is worth every cent you pay.
Fav song would have to be 'Distant Sun' and it's too bad they didn't include any paul hester or nick seymour penned, written and sang songs in this greatest hit cd.
