Free Music Notes for Recurring Dream: The Very Best Of Crowded HouseFree Music Review: A collection of gems Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a Crowded House fan for ten years. To say their songs are great would be an understatement. You can't really describe music like this. One of my favourite songs is "Private Universe". I like the tribal sound of the log drums. Whenever I see the clip I think of John Wyndham's novel "The Chrysalids". Probably because of that eerie wasteland and the strange people who inhabit it. It has Neil walking through the Badlands. My only complaint is that this album didn't include "Chocolate Cake" and "Now We're Getting Somewhere". "Chocolate Cake" is witty and offbeat, "Now We're Getting Somewhere" is uplifting and optimistic. It's a shame that Crowded House are no more, but 10 years is a good lifespan for a band. I suppose it's better that they quit while they were ahead, rather than running the risk of slipping into mediocrity and stagnation. But with Neil's writing abilities and the talents of the other members, this would have been unlikely.
Free Music Review: Give in to Temptation Hit: 5 Stars
You know how some poets and writers are never really appreciated until they're dead as a doornail? Well, for me, that's kinda what happened with the band Crowded House. Now that they've broken up, they're one of my favorite bands. Go figure. The true beauty of these songs are their organic beauty - "It's Only Natural." Their music plays to something deep inside your soul - perhaps it's "Instinct," but these are some of the most unforgettable songs I have ever heard. So go find your own "Private Universe" and listen to this CD from beginning to end. You'll feel bad "When You Come" to realize that their music could have been much more greatly appreciated before they became defunct. But, sadly, "Don't Dream It's Over," the House is no more. Fortunately, "Something So Strong" as this music can stand on its own merit. You don't need to visit their Web site or go to a show. This CD is everything you need to know about CH. So give "Into Temptation" and purchase this CD this very moment. You will not regret it.
Free Music Review: It gets better with every play! Hit: 5 Stars
The House maybe over but the House will always be there for me to go back to and in Recurring Dream you get a wonderfully crafted compilation of atmospheres, dark moods, humilty, grief, uncertainty, love, passion, guilt, power, joy and celebration. The standout tracks for me are 'Private Universe' - it's always raining when I play it which is quite appropriate,' Four Seasons In One Day' and 'Weather With You'. If you can get your hands on the Bonus Live disc I fully reccommend it as this shows the lighter personna of their stage act which was a joy to see. 'Whispers and Moans' is a killer, and Fingers of Love drips all over you like a hot shower on a frosty morning. I love the album, it kisses me every time I hear it and the wonderful subtlties of Neil Finn's supurb songwriting come shining through the gorgeous songs. Songwriting and composition of the highest standard by a wonderful band who due to the ridiculous nature of commercial radio, were never give the recognition they deserved. Dubai it!
Free Music Review: But still just the tip of the iceberg Hit: 5 Stars
Great songs abound in this "Best Of" compilation! Crowded House put out several studio albums, and this collection gives you a taste of all of them and will hopefully whet your appetite to BUY all of them. Neil Finn went on to release two tremendous solo albums ("Try Whistling This" is a masterpiece) and another live album featuring guest stars ranging from Johnny Marr to Eddie Vedder.Upon its initial release, "Recurring Dream" came as a limited-edition 2-CD package, the second CD being about 80 minutes of live material from one of the last Crowded House concerts. If you can't find that on Amazon.com, hunt for it as best you can. But Neil Finn's songwriting and singing has matured so much since his earlier Crowded House days that you might find some of the CH songs a bit too "pop" compared to the sophistication of his later works. So let "Recurring Dream" be an introduction for you, and work your way to Finn's "Try Whistling This" and "One Nil" (released in the States as "One All").
Free Music Review: WHAT ARE THE YEARS AND ALBUMS OF THESE SONGS? Hit: 5 Stars
There are no years or albums attached to the songs on this cd. I never seen "Distant Sun" listed on any recording. These songs are so good.Crowded House is too good to even compare to some of the people I've seen them compared too.
Crowded House is definitely going to be copied someday by these mutants being shown on MTV these days because these mutants sure as heck aren't musicians.
Anyway, I think paul simon and the beatles suck and are so politically correct or whatever it's called that them gets them so much renown. Too bad we didn't hear much from CH in the US after their 1987 songs were played on the radio.
These guys really sound good and they play their instruments so well and can make a captivating sound which is SO HARD and impossible to hear now on radio or even on satellite radio. Lots of cool sounds from instruments played so well on this cd.
This is a great cd.
