Free Music Notes for Recurring Dream: The Very Best Of Crowded House

Free Music Review: Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

Like a lot of reviewrs, this band holds a special place in my heart from the 80's. But they aren't an 80's band and the Finn Brothers rightfully rank up there with influential artists from back then. I still love "I got You" from the Split Endz days. And I remember seeing Neil Finn on some live concert show, which was my catalyst for buying this CD. Just pure, excellent stuff. You listen to this greatest hits CD and two things come to mind. 1) Wow, they had a lot of hits from back then and 2) Why weren't they more popular? Who knows. Neil is one of those people that just has to stay in the industry. So gifted. First time listening to this, I had forgotten about "Fall at your Feet," but I bet I replayed that song 20 times in a row. Haunting. Perfect. And the rest of the songs are just terrific.

Free Music Review: Great Music From One Of The Best Kiwi Bands Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

I actually am writing this review to correct the 2 reviewers who claim Crowded House are Kiwis, and the ones who claim they are Aussies. In actual fact, Crowded House were a 3 piece band comprising a Kiwi (Neil Finn), an Aussie and a South African. Because Neil Finn was the main songwriter, NZ became their home country, but their final gig (if you can remember as far back as that) was held on the steps of Sydney Opera House. However, all that aside, Recurring Dream is probably the best 'best of' around - there isn't a single weak track on it (not bad for a 19 track album) and it keeps its quality through 100's of listens. I could definitely recommend it to any lovers of acoustic/soft rock, although, truth be told, if you like anything that sounds good, then this is definitely for you.

Free Music Review: Mature 80's music
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, I was a teenager in the 80's. And I mean, the entirety of my teenage years were in the 80's. Sadly, I had no connection with my peers at the time and totally missed 80's music.
Recently, I've been trying to catch up on what other kids were listening to back then.
Okay... I already knew two of these songs; "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong."
Upon hearing the rest of the disc, I'm impressed. I think I would have liked these guys had I heard them back when I thought everything the other kids were listening to was bubble-gummy crap.
There is, however, a maturity level to these songs that I think may have eluded me then... but that leads me to think I would have stayed a fan as I aged and the songs took on more depth to me.

Free Music Review: Bravo!
Hit: 5 Stars

Crowded House is quite simply the greatest band ever - better than Ocean Colour Scene and even the mighty Del Amitri. You see all these idiot kids going around listening to the likes of 'Fatboy Slim Shady' and 'The Limp Biscuits' thinking that they are being clever but they are yobs and I am a highly intelligent, successful lawyer (double-first from Oxford) so I know what I'm talking about. 'Weather With You' is a splendid song, as is 'Nothing Ever Happens'. Or was that one of Del Amitri's?. I also like that Holly Valance video where it looks as if she's naked but apparently she's got some sort of flesh colured tape over her breasts and I've paused it and you can't actually see anything. How do I get to be one of the Top 100 reviewers by the way?.

Free Music Review: Crowded House Forever!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I confess--I am a hardcore Crowdie and would probably buy a box of dirt if you slapped a Crowded House sticker on it. Fortunately, everything Crowded House has produced has been worthy of my acclaim and admiration and this collection proves just that.

The CD is a collection of those songs the band felt were the best from their 4 previous albums, not necessarily their biggest hits. I'm sure every Crowdie has their own opinion of the best and is dismayed by the exclusion of one or more of their personal favorites, but this CD is a good representation of Crowded House's work as a whole.

If you're a serious Crowdie like me, you probably already own this CD. If you're not very familiar with the band, this CD is a great place to start.
