Ive just been listening to this album after a decade out of the CD player and I had forgotten just how good this is/was. Yes, it does have a darker feel to it, a more autumnal album that seems to reflect back on a year with perhaps "Temple of Low Men" being the Winter, "Crowded House" the spring and "Woodface" the shimmering summer. Maybe they knew their days as a band were numbered and that feel certainly comes across in the recording. Too many good songs to single out, although Catherine Wheels always makes me cry, the "rockers" are probably the weakest tracks on the album but they are still decent enough. This album is serious pop.
