Free Music Review: The Truth about The Unspoken King

Ok, this album isn't a 5-star album. I only put that rating so that other customers who were curious might be objective and actually check it out despite a lower star rating.
Now, with that being said, the album - I genuinely like it. It's brutal, it's tight, it's inventive, it's still Cryptopsy. I will agree with anyone who says that vocally it's a push towards the death-core stuff but I don't even like Job for a Cowboy or any of the knock off bands that are so trendy these days and I really like this album. Perhaps it takes a band of the caliber of Cryptopsy to properly fuse hardcore and brutal death metal effectively. Regardless of Matt McGachy's vocal style (which when it comes to blood curdling screams and growls is excellent), the rest of the band is in top form. You have to give credit to Cryptopsy for trying something new and doing it well - maybe many of you long for the days of Lord Worm... but those days are long gone. Commend Flo and co. for constantly trying to re-invent themselves. As a metalhead and a musician (in various death metal bands), I can appreciate that they're trying to do something to add more dimension to the genre.
All of the rhetoric aside, this IS a good album. I'd go as far as to say that it's a great album (with the exception of a few of the clean singing parts on songs like The Plaged... even though it's catchy). My favorites of the album are "Worship Your Demons", "The Headsmen", "Bemoan the Martyr" and "Contemplate Regicide".
So, potential customers out there, if you're looking for some metal that is brutal and multifaceted - pick up The Unspoken King. Support REAL metal (so pick up some Hate Eternal and Decapitated while you're at it) and forget about Avenge Sevenfold and Trivium.
