Free Music Review: It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This...Or Maybe It Does!
Hit: 5 Stars

Before Join the Dots was even a rumour I spent countless hours over the course of a year on a dial-up computer downloading these tracks from various places. Most of the time the sound was poor or a track cut off too soon or I just couldn't find a particular song. When this appeared I jumped on it and tossed the old copies away. To have these songs in one place, remastered and (almost) complete...well, I just didn't think it could get any better.

And then a few days ago Rhino re-released Three Imaginary Boys (the original UK version of the Cure's first album, Boys Don't Cry) with a bonus disc containing 20 alternate tracks, demos, live performances and more. I've been hoping for a long time that the Cure's original albums would be remastered and to know that Rhino's in charge of the project just makes me glad that the Cure's discography will receive the attention it deserves.

Join the Dots is essential, but now it's revealed to be only the tip of the iceberg. Fans of the Cure should rejoice!

Free Music Review: A Must for Collectors, But New Listeners Will Enjoy It, Too
Hit: 5 Stars

This long awaited collection is a fan's dream come true. But, casual and new listeners will also find value in the wide variety of tracks.

A quote from the boxset material says it all: "The first thing I ever did when I got a new single," remembers Cure vocalist Robert Smith, "was flip it over and play the other side. I always hoped the B-side would give me another version of the artist, something as good as the A-side but somehow different. I expected great B-sides from the artists I loved... "

Diehard fans, please note that this set is really a collection of b-sides with a good assortment of rare tracks. Additional tracks that have yet to be released are most likely going to be included in the upcoming album remasters. So, don't be alarmed if you find that a particular track is missing.

This year promises many exciting things for Cure fans! Many more reviews for this boxset can be found at my favorite fansite http://www.chainofflowers.com.

Free Music Review: A wonderful collection
Hit: 5 Stars

I have always enjoyed The Cure since 1989 when I discovered them. I was very excited when I discovered that Disintegration was not the first Cure album. It was so much fun buying all of the other previous albums and it was very exciting wating for new material to surface from such a good band. The first single I purchased was Lovesong and I absolutely enjoyed the B-sides. I had searched and searched for earlier singles from the band just to listen to the B-side with no luck.

I was so excited when I read that Robert Smith was going to release a box set of B- sides and rarities. I just bought it today and it is a wonderful collection of hard to find songs. Also included are songs never before released. If you are a true die hard Cure fan, you will absolutley love this collection. It was one of the best things Robert could have done. All of the songs are digitally remastered and they sound great. If you love The Cure, you will not be dissapointed.

Free Music Review: Happiness and Excitement Provided by the Kings of Depression
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a Cure fan since their beginnings. So I was really happy and excited to hear that this box was being released. I am still amazed at the quality of their "B-sides", not to mention that most of these songs are hard to find now. The songs included are better than most bands "A" material. The Cure was able to experiment with sound and bring you to other places. Sometimes this would lead to the song becoming unrecognizable to the original. This box will give you a glimpse into an artist being able to express themselves. It was a great journey that the Cure took me on. Seeing them grow and push the envelope of modern music and what was considered "Pop". If you are a hardcore fan, you probably have all of these songs already (but will probably buy this anyway) and if you are a somewhat curious newcomer...do yourself a favor and buy this NOW!!! This is box set is as strong as they come. You will not regret it. Enjoy.

Free Music Review: Worth the Wait!
Hit: 5 Stars

The Cure are one of those special bands that have recorded a large body of material and some of their best songs are left hidden on b-sides of singles, demos or lost on some film soundtrack somewhere. This box set brings all of their b-sides and some odds and ends together for the first time. Much of the material making it's cd debut. Some of the best of these lost songs include "I'm Cold", "A Chain of Flowers", "This Twilight Garden", "2 Late", "Pillbox Tales" and "To the Sky". Sure there are some things missing....the "Cult Hero" single, "Carnage Visors", the long instrumental originally on the Faith cassette and the "Curiosity" live tracks, but this is still a long overdue and excellent collection. It includes a nice booklet with song comments by Robert Smith and lots of photos. This collection is recommended for new and old Cure fans alike.
