Free Music Notes for Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities 1978-2001

Free Music Review: The only box set I ever bought.
Hit: 5 Stars

The wait is finally over. All of us die-hard Cure fans now have the b-sides, 4 discs of them. I've been waiting for this since 1987 myself. Of course this isn't just b-sides, it's also remixes, different versions, soundtrack and compilation selections, AND unreleased songs. 70 tracks in all! Included is "Babble" from the "Fascination Street" single, the "Love Song" b-side "2 Late", "Harold And Joe" from the "Never Enough" single, "Burn" from "The Crow" soundtrack, and every b-side from the "Staring At The Sea" cassette. Plus covers of Jimi Hendrix, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, and The Doors. Oh, and about 3 more discs worth of stuff. An amazing 23 years of songs. It's quite simply the fanatics dream come true, and worth it even for just the first two discs. This gets 5 stars for quality, and quantity. Casual fans might just want any of their 3 single disc collections, but for the die-hards, this one is "Just Like Heaven".

Free Music Review: Just Can't Get Enough
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, I know, the headline is Depeche, but like Depeche, I can't get enough of The Cure lately. I wasn't a "cure fan" until 1989 with Disintegration, so I really started listening during the "downfall", but honestly, now that I just about have everything of theirs, I must say I can't understand why "Wish", "Wild Mood Swings" and "Bloodflowers" get such a beating. In particular "Wild Mood Swings", the B Sides from that album I think are some of the best of the 4 discs. "Home", "Adonais" and "It Used to Be Me" are breathtaking. I can't get enough of "Home". The "Wish" B sides are also amazing, LOVE "This Twilight Garden"!!!

While listening to disc one it struck me how "The Cure's" sound is still 100 percent relevant today. And their new album shows that they haven't lost "it" at all. The B Sides of the new album carry on with the tradition of the old, as good if not better than the album tracks.

Free Music Review: The Cure Strikes Gold!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a fan of The Cure since 1984 and have hoped this release would see the light of day. It was a blessing when Bob said he would put this together for his fans and he did one heck of a job.... The sound, pictures, booklet, artwork, etc are all top notch quality .... It is what a Cure fan expects from Bob and he delivered again.... Lament(flexipop version), Twilight Garden, Chain Of Flowers, More Than This, and I'm Cold are some of the standout tracks and there are many.....70 tracks in all and the color booklet has 75 pages with great detail about EVERY song in the set( comments from Robert and Simon)....Rare cuts such as Lost Wishes ep, Carnage Visors, Pirate Ships, etc all will be on the 2 cd remaster sets that will be starting in April 2004..... All hail The Cure and bow down at the alter of Mad Bob and his band of mood music makers.... HALLELUJIAH.......

Free Music Review: great cd box set
Hit: 5 Stars

quite every included songs are really great! there are a lot of unknown songs, at least not included in official releases so tipically not easy accessible. even the songs related of last Cure's period are often very interesting. many of those "new" songs are really great and the quoting from Robert Smith at the beginning of the inside book is definitely true "I always expected great b sides from musicians I love, ginving a different view about them". finally, the included book is quite interesting... maybe it can be more interesting including more biographic details about musicians, but anyway it's interesting since they tell the story about each song included in the box set.
definitely a must have for everyone that can love Cure's music (I mean, not only for "crazy" fan ;) or it can be really a great way to discover it

Free Music Review: Everything they said it would be
Hit: 5 Stars

This box set is amazing...pretty much everything is here. For the stuff that isn't - they are RE RELEASING 12 cd's over the next 18 months w/ bonus discs...thats 12 more discs of goodies people! Get over it!

The songs for "boys don't cry" were NOT re-recorded

"cult hero" was NOT the 1st single - it was a single in between three imaginary boys and 17 seconds.

if you are gonna gripe, get the facts straight!

but while i'm at it...the remix of "wrong number" really really sucks. In fact, disc 4 isn't very strong at all

BTW, maybe the person from OHIO who reviewed the box set on 2/14/04 should realize the re-releases are on the way.....why would "the weedy burton" be on the bsides box when its a hidden album track on three imaginary boys? does anyone understand that one???
