Free Music Review: the darkest cure ever.

please dont call this goth!why do people insist on calling bands like joy division, the cure and chameleons goth?because they are dark?they dont sing about vampires or other such nonsense!!!would you call radiohead or jesus and mary chain gothic?nooooo,you wouldnt.dark does not mean goth.duh!!this is a great re-issue.the sound of the album is greatly improved,and overall of better quality.the graphics are awesome,but the second cd is for die hard fans only.if you dont loooove the cure,dont buy this and pleeeeeaaaase stop calling them goth.it belittles the artistry of this greeeeaaaat band,and makes them sound like some stupid vampire gimmick group.trust me,they arent.they are one of the most important bands of the past 30 years,and this album is a high water mark for post-punk.they are a truly important band.their darkest,and most disturbed statement.Free Music Review: Worth spending money on the upgrade.

I have been thinking of getting Pornography or Seventeen Seconds in the newly remastered expanded form. I bought Seventeen Seconds first because I wanted to hear The Forest. The extras on that release are not that great, but it was still worth it. This is definitely worth the money. It sounds much better, and the extras are cool. The demos of some of the songs are really good, especially The Hanging Garden Demo, which has a real cool Robert Smith rhythm guitar sound. The live versions are also very good. The sound isn't tip top on a few of them, but they are great performances and the sound quality isn't bad enough to make you not want to listen. As the headline above says this is the first Cd I got from the Cure so I can't complain about the production of the original or how the originals production added to it. All I clud write about is the cd itself.
It starts off with the disturbing "One Hunderd Years" which is a nice way to start off the cd with the line" It doesn't matter if we all die". All the songs are a mess of emotion both musically and lyrically. For me The Figurehead takes emotion to a new level of intensity.
The cd closes with the title track which reminds me of earley industrial but not as noisy. If you want some thing disturbing and that is beautifully noise I recommend this cd for sure

I experienced Pornography in three different phases. First, the original 1982 release(which is still great). Secondly, on the Cure's phenomenal Trilogy dvd, which features the band playing the entire album live, along with Disintegration and Bloodflowers.Thencomes along this wonderful remaster this year. While I can appreciate the rawness of the original release, I was hoping for a remaster(along with most Cure fans I imagine). Not only do you get a new feel for the album, you also get a lot of rarities on disc 2. My favorite songs include One Hundred Years, A Strange Day, and Cold. But this album begs to be played in its entirety. A must for any Cure fan.Free Music Review: One of my top three FAV Cure albums!

My summary is simple: Robert Smith demonstrates in this album that he meets the pure definition of a troubadour. Yes, he emerged from a dark place when he wrote these, and I can only imagine what the transformation was like for the band during this time. The lyrics are powerful and the music is passionate. One of the most evocative and listenable albums ever made. Can you tell I love it? :-) This album will not disappoint.
