Free Music Notes for The Ugly Organ

Free Music Review: beautiful music - very satisfied!
Hit: 5 Stars

i am almost 15 yrs old and i had a gift certificate for a free cd from borders & my friend recommended the ugly organ cd by cursive the other day so i picked that, & i absoloutely love it. when i first listened to the whole album i noticed the songs that stood out for me were only 3-- art is hard, driftwood fairy tale, and the recluse which got me a little mad cause that many songs didn't seem like enough to be fulfilled (out of the 12). so i listened to the album again and again and found that i thought 5 MORE songs were fantastic. the gentleman caller, bloody murderer, butcher song, some red handed sleight of hand (my favorite), harold weathervein, and sierra! awesome, awesome. the other 2 songs, harold! frankenstein, is very short, and the last one, staying alive is very long, & i didn't like them much, so i decided to not listen to those. the cd also has live videos of sink to the beat, gentleman caller, & the martyr, which is an excellent enhancement. this cd is one of the best you can find if you like this crazy, yet beautiful genre (i am not good at classifying music), so buy it today!

Free Music Review: For Them? Art Doesn't Seem So Hard...
Hit: 5 Stars

Have you ever said to yourself "I want something that rocks out loud, but isn't afraid to take it down a notch...But not in a Thrice going acoustic kind of way. And I want something that's cynnical of itself, but doesn't hang itself by a seemiingly endless series of knots."?

Well, good news! Cursive has EXACTLY what you've been looking for. What's contained on the flat piece piece of plastic called "The Ugly Organ" pushing some of the so-called "greatest rock albums of all time" like "London Calling" or "Tattoo You" right the hell out of the way!

Dramatic and serious, Cursive runs the album, less like a concert, but more like a vaudville drama. Self-criticism and cynnicism are the lyric du jour served as heavy fare while you watch Tim let it all out at the audience.

By the end of this album, you can't help but feel thouroughly rocked, feel like you've learned a thing or two, and most importantly, gotten to know Cursive for who they really are.

My words just don't do this album justice.

Free Music Review: An symphony composed by a modern rock band
Hit: 5 Stars

I was first exposed to Cursive through "Burst and Bloom." Wow, I completely fell in love with the band because of the unique approach they took to the album. This morning, I stopped by a nearby indie music shop and picked up a copy of The Ugly Organist on my way to class. I was really excited expecting to find a full-length album put together using much the same approach as had been used with Burst and Bloom. Initially, to my disappointment, I found The Ugly Organist to be nothing like the earlier album. But as I listened to the album in its entirety and perused the lyrics, I realized what a masterpiece it was on its own. The band is soo incredibly creative with the sounds they throw together and the human emotions and conditions they theme their songs around. Wow, I even thought about picking up the cello after hearing the melodies Gretta threw together. Overall, this album is exactly what it clames to be...a theatrical production, from the beginning to end. Can't wait to see them in concert!

Free Music Review: Excellent!

After deciding that I was going to the Plea for Peace show here in Omaha, I went out and picked up The Ugly Organ to prepare, as I had only heard "The Recluse" on a local station. It took approximately 3 listens before I was totally hooked. "Some Red Handed Sleight of Hand" stood out immediately as great, but the rest took some time. Anyway, now I can't get it out of my CD player at home and my MP3 player in the car. Nearly every song is excellent...no simple pop tunes here, but some interesting cello riffs lying over some amazing drumming and bass guitar lines. My favorite tracks are "Art Is Hard," "The Recluse," "Driftwood: A Fairy Tale," "A Gentleman Caller," and "Staying Alive." Tim Kasher's divorce and cynicism directed at the music industry are a deep well of inspiration...
They put on a great live show, by the way...Gretta certainly does rock the cello.
Buy this CD right now if you don't have it!

Imagine a band so great that it is extraordinary when they play 4/4 time. Or maybe a band that purposely plays/sings incorrectly and not ruin a song. Or a band that is so genius, that they are genius because their lyrics contradict the song by downing it, and claiming that their current lyrics are a cheap stratigy, and a marketing scheme. If you could comprehend that, you probably would like Cursive.
Cursive is a band you have to listen to over and over, and "study". If you do not understand their genius, you probobly will not like them, or pretend to because you think it is cool to like music that sounds bad. Cursive is without a doubt, the most original band I have ever heard.
I suggest their album "Domestica". All of their albums blow everything else away, but "Domestica" is my favorite. Though their best song, "Sink to the Beat" is on "Burst and Bloom" Buy this album and support the best band.
