Free Music Review: JUST WHAT A BROADWAY MUSICAL SHOULD BE!!
Hit: 5 Stars

In the tradition of good old-fashioned musicals that entertain for entertainment's sake comes this terrific, witty, clever, fun musical with a top notch cast and some swell songs. We were lucky enough to see this show several weeks ago. And as grand as it is to watch-- it is super to listen to as well. David Hype Pierce is totally terrific, as is Debra Monk. Karen Ziemba and Jason Daniely are first tier performers as well. The show moves along at a great pace, consistently entertaining. There are some wonderous Kander and Ebb melodies--maybe not on par with Cabaret and Chicago--but nonetheless still extremely good. Everything about the CD says high quality. It is well recorded and the performances are excellent. If you get a chance to see the show, grab the chance! If not, you can still enjoy the show with the playing of this CD. Highly recommended!!

Free Music Review: No pretention, just entertainment
Hit: 5 Stars

After the 2007 Tony awards, I bought 3 CDs of various musicals I saw there--Grey Gardens, Spring Awakenings, and Curtains. This was my first introduction to all of them. The first two are great for different reasons--the strength and depth of the music, fabulous acting, etc. But for pure entertainment in its own right, "Curtains" has been, surprisingly, our favorite. The story (light murder mystery/romance) is easy to follow, the characters are all fun, the music light and catchy. All the members of the cast are wonderful--top notch entertainers. Everything that one expects from Broadway. David Hyde Pierce is great, and I am now a huge (new) fan of Debra Monk's.

Try this one in the car during a road trip! There are no pretentions here, just good story, good music, comedy, vim and verve.
That's entertainment!

Free Music Review: Curtains is the best
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of Kander and Ebb. I especially like Ebb's way with lyrics. Unfortunately, since Ebb has died, this really is "curtains" for their collaboration. This is the best K&E production I have ever seen, especially with the original cast. It is hilarious, romantic, typical theater attitudes, and a happy ending. Debra Monk is the best performer, but the character of "Bambi" has to be seen on stage to truly appreciate her dancing ability. David Hyde Pierce sings and dances better than I would have expected. This album doesn't give you the true ending, so you have to go see it on the stage to see how the murders are all solved and everyone is happy. It's worth just listening to, even if you don't really know how it ends.

Free Music Review: Hilarious, Totally Hilarious!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the funniest shows I have seen (or heard) in years (well, maybe The Producers still ranks the best). It's everything a Broadway show should be. Huge production numbers, outstanding comedy, great satire. Just a completely well-rounded and performed show. What can you say about David Hyde-Pierce? The guy has it. He's an incredible addition to the musical theater. Debra Monk couldn't be funnier or more brazen. Karen Ziemba has been on the periphery of greatness in many shows; she final lands there. The ballads are touching. Kander and Ebb, one of the greatest composing teams in Broadway history, have writte a worthy finale to their illustrious career. This CD is a fitting tribute.

Since there are a load of good reviews already posted, I am only going to second everyone who gave it top rating. Kander & Ebb are already in the history of American popular song ('Cabaret', 'New York-New York' only two examples of their craft). Unfortunately, Mr Ebb passed on already. This swansong should be his best tribute.
Let Mr Kander live a long productive life (with kudos to Mr Holmes as well!)
This show is fun, funny and loaded with good Broadway tunes and witty lyrics (try "It's a Business" and you will get more than a chuckle.)
Superb production. All the stars possible and more.
