. . . if somewhat difficult to get into. Thus, the conflicted--may one say, niggardly--reviews.What's going on here? World metal? Loosy-goosy Brazilian vocal weirdness mapped onto some crazed world-jazz aesthetic? I don't know, and I don't care. It took me three complete listens to get on board with the vibe here (which is, admitedly, out there), but once on board I was a--thank goodness!!--convert. Romero Lubambo, esp., rocks. The percussive soundscapes defy imagining.
Listen. You've got to set aside all expectations. I, too, was hoping for Vira Loucas bettered. I, too, was initially disappointed with the strange-sounding vibe, something I don't quite think I've ever encountered before.
Just trust Cyro--he knows best. Just go with the--to these ears, at least--rather remarkable flow. Set aside all expectations.
