Free Music Notes for Brown Sugar

Free Music Review: The best thing I've ever heard
Hit: 5 Stars

I can't be as articulate as all the other reviews; I can only say this album is incredible. It'll move you and soothe you down to the essence of your being. D'Angelo is a genius, and this is music at its best. After hearing this album, I'm liking Voodoo and I'll probably have to get the live album too! Trust me, there's NO WAY you'll be disappointed.

Free Music Review: fantastic
Hit: 5 Stars

D' is one of the 90's best artists. And Brown Sugar is probably one of the most controversial and greatest debut albums ever. It's a mixture of jazz, gospel, funk, soul, and r&b. Some of the best songs on the album are "Higher", "Me and Dreamin' Eyes of Mine", and "When We Get By". And if you like this you will love Voodoo.

Free Music Review: Instant Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

With all the hype surrounding "VOODOO" people forget what actually made that release so popular. His style was so creative that it left us yearning for another taste. Every song he released was a hit and even the ones he didnt could have fell into that category. A perfect collection of what real R&B should be. Here are my picks as best on the album.

Me and Those Dreamin Eyez of Mine very smooth song with a sensual flow. Lyrics fit the mood and vocals like heaven.

When We Get By the best song I have heard from him. Mixes old-time style with sometimes confusing but still beautiful lyrics. Jazzy song with a mellow mood to it.

Lady like is others it is laid back and mellow. This was his breakthrough song which put him on the map. Still good after all those years.

This cd proved D'Angelo as an artist and made us want him. Relaxed, sensual, carismatic, and once even violent, D gave us what we wanted to hear before we even knew we wanted to hear it. Sleeper pick: Higher deep spiritual song which ofte resembles old negro spiritual/gospel.

Free Music Review: Nobody does it better!
Hit: 5 Stars

The first time I heard Brown Sugar I was at first skeptical because I had heard Voodoo first. But once I absorbed the lyrics, the rythms, and his vocals I was mesmerized. D' is like a cross between Prince, Al Green, and Stevie Wonder all at once and reaches his peak with songs like "Higher" and "When We Get By". The album is a mix of jazz, blues, gospel, and soul. Believe me, this is a cd that any music lover should hear.

Free Music Review: top class soul...
Hit: 5 Stars

love this. the man can write, the man can sing, the man can play. there are chilled grooves and more and a disparate feel that is lacking on 'Voodoo', which is a shame, because the variety and consistent excellence of this album is surprising and refreshing. i also recommend you check out 'Live At The Jazz Cafe' on Import, which is well worth the extra money and plays like a funkier addenda to 'Brown Sugar'. Go buy.
