Free Music Notes for Alive 2007

Free Music Review: Simply one of the best albums ever.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a Daft Punk fan since their arrival onto the dance scene in the mid 90's. Being a dance DJ myself I was immediately entranced by their use of beats, loops, snyths, vocodors and samples to create their music. With Alive 2007 they've simply outdone themselves. They continously and seemlessly mix between 2-3 tracks at a time creating an absolutely amazing listening experience. This album has been has been on my iPod since the day I bought it. Its tracks have by far the highest play count (well over 50 times each) of anything else in my iTunes. Here are my ratings on the tracklisting;

1. ROBOT ROCK / OH YEAH 10/10
2. TOUCH IT / TECHNOLOGIC Listen 10/10
3. TELEVISION RULES THE NATION / CRESCENDOLLS 10/10
4. TOO LONG / STEAM MACHINE 10/10
5. AROUND THE WORLD / HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER 10/10
6. BURNIN' /TOO LONG 10/10
7. FACE TO FACE / SHORT CIRCUIT 9/10 (Face to Face is just a bit too pop sounding)
8. ONE MORE TIME / AERODYNAMIC 9/10 (One More Time is also slightly too commercial)
9. AERODYNAMIC BEATS / FORGET ABOUT THE WORLD 10/10
10. PRIME TIME OF YOUR LIFE / BRAINWASHER / ROLLIN' AND SCRATCHIN'/ALIVE 10/10
11. DA FUNK / DAFTENDIREKT 10/10
12. SUPERHEROES / HUMAN AFTER ALL / ROCK'N ROLL 10/10

Pros

+ Everything

Cons

- Nothing

I can't recommend this album enough to anyone. If you love dance music or Daft Punk this is one album you simply must own. My only regret is that I wasn't able to attend the live performance. I've just watched cellphone clips on YouTube, which in itself were amazing.

Free Music Review: Better than the studio releases
Hit: 5 Stars

Live albums are normally disappointing. I can think of only a few live albums that sound great, and this is one of them. Alive 2007 sounds better than the studio versions. Once I heard it, I was disappointed that I purchased Musique, Vol. 1: 1993-2005 too.

I'm not a fan of the album Human After All. This live album has some songs from that album so I was hesitant to purchase it. However, the live versions are not the same songs as the studio versions. Daft Punk mixes songs elements together with a lot more booming bass. Listen to the song 4 sample and you'll hear the difference.

The good songs from other albums such as Around The World come across nicely in this live album. In most cases, I think they are superior to the album releases. In the album versions, it is all very clean. The songs need the club style booming bass or it sounds flat.

The biggest downside to this album is how they treated One More Time. It's a great song but too short. If only the live version was as long as the studio version and had the slow build up in the middle of the song. I can live without Musique Volume 1 except for One More Time.

Free Music Review: In one word, incredible.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've always liked Daft Punk, for me, but their albums never stay in rotation for more than a couple weeks without getting old. This live cd, on the other hand, is absolutely amazing-- I've had it for a few months now, and it still blows my mind.

You really feel the energy of the crowd in these songs, and you feel like you're right there if you close your eyes. I've heard the live show is "the best concert anyone has ever been, or will go, to", in the words of a friend. This album does a pretty good job of getting that point across.

The remixes of the songs are fantastic-- the melodies of different songs intertwine wonderfully. My favorites on the album are "Robot Rock/Oh Yeah" and "Television Rules The Nation/Crescendolls". Seriously, though, you won't find a fault with any of the songs. They're all great, easy to love, and even easier to dance to.

If you're a fan of electronic music, you HAVE to buy this. It's easily the best house/electronic album I've heard in a long time.

Free Music Review: Better than Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Homework, Human After All, and Discovery have all been great or at least mediocre by most peoples standards, but each has had problems. With Alive though, it makes everything song a little be of everything that everybody likes. Another great attribute to this album while you can just choose a song and just listen to that single one, it is so easy just get lost and go through the whole song because of the melting of one song into the another. The album essentially feels as if you are listing to song filled with everything. The album starts of with the simplicity of Robot Rock and just glides so effortlessly into Television Rules the Nation. After hitting up Cresendolls on the journey, you have been so sucked up into the music you have hit every hit they have ever had. What one realized after listening to this album is that there is only one way that Daft Punk could ever make there songs better, by taking two or three great songs and meshing them together into the awesomeness that is Alive!

Free Music Review: alive on CD
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great live album, but it makes me wish I were actually at the show. This type of music is really best live. Something friends of mine that loved to hate "techno" didn't seem to get or care to. The energy level at live performances by the best electronic music acts often dwarfs that of conventional rock concerts and I love rock. This music is just incredible blasting out of a massive sound system. Then there is the visual aspect of Daft Punk's performances.... two guys in space costumes, masked with helmets, perched on top of a pyramid of flashing lights that looks like a ship taking off. The live shows deliver a sensual onslaught that overrides your conscious mind and all your left to do is feel it. I haven't been to a Daft Punk show, but I've experienced live electronic performances by acts like Orbital and I've seen some clips of Daft Punk's shows. This CD comes as close as a CD can to capturing the sound, but now I want to see the rest of the show.
