Free Music Notes for DiscoveryFree Music Review: One More Time We're Gonna Celebrate! Hit: 5 Stars
I've had the songs from the internet for several weeks now but I thought it wouldn't be fair to write a review 'till I bought my own copy (the album's just been released worldwide this very morning).I'm not a Daft Punk fan, let's get that straight. I'm not that much into techno-music, certainly not into disco-funk. And I'm NOT giving this album 5 stars because continental (and more specifically French) music became HOT all of a sudden. Don't worry, Madonna knows what she's doing... Vive L'Europe ET les Etats Unis, prenons le meilleur des deux mondes! 'One More Time' In Europe we all know this track by heart, young and old: Eurodance with transformed vocals by Romanthony. It's really great but the rest of the album's better. Let's move on, now shall we... 'Aerodynamic' A song that consists of two parts: aggresive breakbeats and a really fast guitar solo with some synths. This track is MASSIVE! 'Digital Love' Pure guitar pop with filtered Daft Punk-vocals, folllowed by devastating breaks. Phoenix meets Supertramp. A 100% FM-summer hit! 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' Filtered (again) disco-funk, but not to worry, their sound is ENORMOUS once again (nice 'contre-temps'). This is a clear stand-out track. Love it! 'Crescendolls' Extremely festive electro-house, a real party-track: a recurring gimmick, background voices with special effects and some filters. A Daft Punk-track like only Daft Punk can make 'em. 'Nightvision' Slow with mid-tempo rythms. It's a nice interlude. 'Superheroes' Pure Muscle Music. A mix of a hard house beat and a californian FM chorus, this is 'Star Wars' goes Disco. Easy but good. 'High Life' Real Daft Punk-voices brought up in crescendo. Simple plan but... MY GOD IT WORKS!!!!! 'Something About Us' Downtempo funk with some more delicious vocals by Thomas Bangalter. It's got a real laid back fancy edge to it. 'Voyager' Tender but firm. A very nice bassline with the usual guitar riffs and an 'ambiance mélancolique'. The Dafts show us their music can be subtle as well. It works for me! 'Veridis Quo' This is deep-electro with a sad vibe to it. This is not for the clubs but shows us Daft Punk have a lot up their sleeves... 'Short Circuit' Vintage Electro-funk meets modern electronics. Reminds me of Grand Master Flash (in part one) and the Aphex Twins' 'Windowlicker' (part two). First it SURPRISES, then it SEDUCES. 'Face To Face' The Perfect Daft Pop Song (with vocals by Todd Edwards). Brilliant, one of the best tracks on 'Discovery'! 'Too Long' This is a potential hit single with Romanthony on the vocals, like 'One More Time'. This track is no genious but it really works and delivers... The album ends like it begins: with a sure commercial hit. All in all? PURE GENIOUS, BRILLIANT MUSIC but most of all A TON OF FUN and GROOVY DANCEFLOOR THEMES. Own this album and you (and everyone around you, for that matter) won't regret it. Discovery comes with an exclusive Daft Club membership card, where you get acces to every single new track or remix Thomas and Guy-Man want you to hear. And if that doesn't convince you I don't know what will...

Free Music Review: It's not Daft, it's not Punk...it's just awesome. Hit: 5 Stars
One day while scrolling through my CD store, I found this record, and without ever having heard it, I got it. I'm so glad I did. Daft Punk are my favorite techno/house artists, and after giving reviews to their great old-school "Homework" and their brand new "Human After All", this fantastic record needs a review too!
1. One More Time- Great dance track, period. (9/10)
2. Aerodynamic- A good track, "Aerodynamic" reminds me of "Pheonix" from "Homework". (7.5/10)
3. Digital Love- One of my favorites, "Digital Love" is a song that has the ability to make me dance and chill me out at the same time. The highlight is its amazing synthesized guitar solo about 3 min and 30 sec. in. (10/10)
4. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger- The best track on this record. You just hear it and you rock out and start dancing, then you'll start singing along, and...just...a phenomenal track. (10/10)
5. Crescendolls- Also a great track, "Crescendolls" is another song that makes you get up and dance. (9/10)
6. Nightvision- This song just chills you out, and you just lay back...and relax...and listen. (9/10)
7. Superheroes- A good track, "Superheroes" has a good thumpy beat and pads that fit the mood and title perfectly. My favorite part of this track has to be the synths that zip through the air, fighting crime and protecting Jump City from Slade, Cinderblock, and other villians. =) (7/10)
8. High Life- An okay track, "High Life" has a thumpy beat like that of "Superheroes" and...well, I feel there's not much to say, it's just okay. (5/10)
9. Something About Us- Ah, another chillout track. Like "Nightvision", it's just that song that lets you sit back, relax, and listen. (9/10)
10. Voyager- Another of my faves! "Voyager", with it's synth pads, cool beat, and funky bass, is a great song. Like "Digital Love", it can chill you out and make you wanna dance at the same time. (10/10)
11. Veridis Quo- This track has a very Middle-Ages feel. Very cool beat, awesome synth blips, and some of the best pads I've had the pleasure to hear. (8/10)
12. Short Circuit- Awesome beats and synth riffs make "Short Circuit" a cool track. Unfortunately, the second half of the song isn't so good, when weird square-lead-style synths breakdown into fuzz. (7.5/10)
13. Face to Face- "Face to Face" is very good, despite the bad reviews it's gotten. It uses the "sample split-seconds of stuff to create an unintelligible collage of sounds" style previously used on "Homework"'s "High Fidelity". Its alternative rock-styled-synths, coupled with an awesome beat make this a very cool track. (9/10)
14. Too Long- Although it is, as the title says, "too long", once you get into this track it becomes very good. It's flange synth and the classic electronic beat make "Too Long" a good ending to a fantastic record. (9/10)
Thank you for taking time to read this review. Peace out!
Free Music Review: Classic Daft Punk Album... Hit: 5 Stars
This is by far the most cohesive album DP has put out during their career. I think that's what makes it stand out from their other albums, which tend to go all over the place sound wise. Still good albums, but not as good as Discovery.
One More Time - Everyone and your mama has heard this song...has a real celebratory feel to it, and it utilizes auto-tune in the format it was made for. I still find it hard to believe that the sample of "More Spell On You" by Eddie Johns wasn't used in this track (I personally think they got away with using it lol) 5/5
Aerodynamic - This song should be on Guitar Hero....the solo is killer...the bell tolling intro and the switch-up toward the end are also a nice touch! 5/5
Digital Love - The sample is picked very nicely and meshes well with the thumping beats and vocoder-heavy vocals....this is like part two of "One More Time" 5/5
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - This has gained even more popularity after Kanye West sampled it in 2007. Great robotic, electronic music, with some seriously talented use of the vocoder once again. 5/5
Crescendolls - HEY!!!! This induces insane behavior, and even more insane dancing. 5/5
Nightvision - I only wish it was longer. Chill music, provides a soft break from the high energy of the first five cuts. 5/5
Superheroes - Put on your cape, and zoom around with the energy of this one! The Barry Manilow sample is a little humorous, but adds to the life of the song. 5/5
High Life - No sample credit in this? Really? Nice track, though a bit repetitive, the groove is strong, and gives a feel a la fashion show... 4/5
Something About Us - Chill vibe...kind of a part two of Nightvision with vocals...pout yourself an icy glass of something, or kiss your girl to this lol 5/5
Voyager - Not a standout track, but engaging bass line, and nicely added keys toward the end. 4/5
Veridis Quo - Also, not a standout. It's the only passable track here, but even it isn't a bad one. 3/5
Short Circuit - The ending is worth it. This is very weird and crazy, so if you're into that sort of electronic style you can get down with this. 4/5
Face to Face - Great beat, and fun lyrics and vocals...has a bit of a Prince or Michael Jackson vibe. 5/5
Too Long - Is wayyyy too long. Would've done fine as a 5 minute track. Otherwise, very nice way to close the album out. 3.5/5
Classic DP album, go cop that!
Free Music Review: Brilliant. Awesome. I'd like to play it "One More Time" Hit: 5 Stars
Now this is interesting. Apparently these guys have been famous for quite a while, yet somehow I'd never heard of them. All that was remedied recently though. When I heard that Leiji Matsumoto had created a full-length animated feature with stunning animation based on an ablum by Daft Punk, I just had to check it out. While my opinion of that excellent piece of animation is mixed (I just didn't dig the story or think most of it matched the songs all that well), it did something to me. It made me buy the album it was based on "Discovery". Wow.
In this case, it seemed more like the music video was just a distraction than an extension of the music. When I first started listening to the album I thought it was okay, but as I progressed through it, listening to the songs in order, and then repeating some just to hear them one more time, I got HOOKED.
It's hard to describe. I love electronic music and techno and all that sort of thing, but this is different. The voices and music are all really just toyed with by the musical artists in these songs. Everything is just a way to get you into a feeling, of a rhythm, or a beat. The more you hear the songs, they more they grow on you, the more you get into them, the more you like them, the more you listen to them.
Take that song "One more time". That song is downright addictive! The beat is so infectious that I found I absolutely had to move to the song while I was listening to it. Ditto for the next three tracks. "Aerodynamic" is amazing because it uses electric guitar like a piano player uses his keyboard, not just for show, but to extend and play with a melody, finally turning it into a music-box version of itself before transforming into my favorite song on the album "Digital Love". I love that song. It's just so incredibly upbeat, happy, and beautiful. I love that song. A lot of people really love the next one, "Harder, better, faster, stronger". I didn't care for it at first, but it grows on you, to the point where I love it too now. My other favorite tracks include "Nightvision", "Superheroes" (why do I actually think of comic book superheroes when I hear that song?), and "Voyager".
This may be an acquired taste, but it's definitely a taste I'm glad I acquired. If you dig electronic music in general you should check it out. Just keep an open mind. This more than just more of the same repetitive techno/electronica you've heard. This is beautiful, original, and unique music. Great stuff. Give it a try.
