Free Music Notes for Discovery

Free Music Review: Dance, Dance, Dance...
Hit: 5 Stars

Every song on Daft Punk's 'Discovery' is unique - no two songs sound alike. Daft Punk (in my opinion) really knew what they were doing when they put this album together; it's a wonderful expression of their love for dance music. My two favorite songs on here are "Digital Love" (#3) and "Face To Face" (#13).

"Digital Love" combines disco themes with classic rock a la Manfred Mann's 70's hit, "Blinded By The Light" - there's even a virtuoso guitar solo in the middle of the song. I hope "Digital Love" ends up being a single; I really, really like this one.

"Face To Face" is pure 80s, with a millenial feel to it. It combines elements of early Prince with a touch of New Order. This is my favorite song on the album...I wish it was longer.

Other tracks I must mention are "Aerodynamic" (#2), "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" (#4), and "Crescendolls" (#5) [this song is zany, but I like it anyway]

If you enjoy songs like "Lady" by Modjo (sounds like George Michael to me), "I'll Fly With You" (Gigi D'Agostino) or ATC's "Around The World (La, La, La, La, La) - you'll appreciate this. Most (if not all) dance music fans are already familiar with track #1, "One More Time" by now; when you listen to it, it does feel like a celebration, doesn't it?

Just close your eyes and let this album take you away...

Free Music Review: This album is the greatest album ever
Hit: 5 Stars

I didnt really consider myself a fan of Daft Punk, let alone techno music at all, until i was at a party and everyone who was in the "cool crowd" who danced just amazing, said "time to bring out the classic" and they brought out Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. I know this album is more than that one song, but that song is a huge part of the Discovery foundation. One More Time is the greatest song cuz it shows me that you can never have too much fun when you are just with your friends out on the town having a great time. Aerodynamic was weird at first, but then i heard the guitar solo that lasted for more then a minute. it just amazed me from then on. i remember rewinding that pert in particular in that song. Digital love, is the perfect song in the position it is on Discovery. one more time is about celebration, aerodynamic is about the actual nightlife, and digital love comes on and just calms you down until you get towards the end when you hear the amazing advancments in beats, rhythms, electronics put into music. The rest of the CD is the same. Nightvision is like a cool and calm moment to just remember where you are, to sober up if you will. and another great song is number 10, Voyager, just has an amazing tune to it. This album is truely one to go into the history books. It is the album with every song that you will hear once, then HAVE to play them all over One More Time.

Free Music Review: So stupid, So wonderful.
Hit: 5 Stars

I think i'll review this album in list form, that should be fun! 1. Ok, first of all, this album is very tounge in cheek and if you dont understand that, then you probably hate it. How can people honestly think they sincerely write lyrics like "celebrate and Dance so free." Yes, they know it sounds dated, that's the point. But at the same time, they blur the lines, so you never know where the joke begins and ends. They trick you into admitting you love the ridiculous. 2. Still, the music is really beautiful. They can take ignorant lyrics, terribly cheesy sounds, and make them beautiful. How? Who Knows? 3. Homework was Dance Music also! I'm not sure why people think it was some deeply sacred piece of music, but it wasn't. It also was about having fun, and because of that, I don't see Discovery as some huge departure. 4. Discovery varies from homework mainly in the amount of variety of song structure. I love Homework, but you have to admit, the songs were all structured in a similar way. Discovery is full of surprises, and because of that I believe it is (gasp) a better album. 5. Short circuit IS a good song. 6.Daft Club is a brilliant idea, and the first track released is pretty cool. 7. If you love cheesy music, that is actually good underneath, buy Discovery, lock yourself in your room, and just wallow in it. Feel no shame.

Free Music Review: Well worth the wait
Hit: 5 Stars

I didn't have much expectations for "Discovery" when it first came out but after seeing the video for "One More Time" for the first time I knew immediately that this album was going to be special and that I had to have it in my constantly growing cd collection.

I have the duo's first album "Homework" which I loved dearly but I thought that cd was flawed. The album is so cold in comparison to the warmth and funkiness of "Discovery". This album is shorter than its predecessor which keeps the listener wanting more. I think that it is a good thing. The disco, electro-funk flavor of this album permeates the entire cd from "One More Time" all the way to "Too Long". Each song is so good that the listener doesn't pay much attention to the length of the song like "Too Long" which is a 10 minute epic dance track. Sampling Barry Manilow for "Superheroes" was brilliant. It really worked well for the song. Normally I am not too crazy about artists sampling other artists' songs but I can definitely make an exception with Daft Punk.

I definitely can rate "Discovery" as one of the best cds of the new millenium so far as well as best dance album. This album totally confirmed me as a serious Daft Punk fan. I just hope I don't have to wait too long for the next album.

Free Music Review: The First Great Album of the 21st Century
Hit: 5 Stars

It has been four years since Daft Punk's debut "Homework" had us Around the World, feelin' Da Funk, and letting us know we were still Alive. Now that they are back, its like they never left. That same positivlet charged/digital vibe they make takes me back to some of the music that made me happiest while in high school. Now "Discovery" hits back with an odd maturity to the technology and style they homed in on with "Homework." From the first track and single, One More Time, you know where things are going and that we are not in charge. Once this album starts your track search option is disabled and you must sit there, listening to track after track feeling so good the only button you can hit is repeat all. And if you get a chance you must see the video for the single, absolutely dazzling (but I'm not gonna ruin it for you.) My favorite track has to be what I assume will be the next single (I'm usually right when it comes to this sort of thing) Harder, Better, Faster Stronger: a digital funk masterpiece using deconstructed sentence fragments though a vocoder which come together in the end so fast you have to play it more than once. Still, where can Daft Punk go from here? I can only dream. I just hope it brings me back here in no time at all.
