Free Music Notes for HomeworkFree Music Review: Still my favorite album Hit: 5 Stars
4 years ago, I was walking around the campus of Ohio State University and I went into a record shop. In the little headphones on the wall, this album was playing. I liked it and so I bought it. I play it at a few parties and everybody starts to like it--people are playing it at parties from their own copy. Now, 4 years later, I've listened to a lot of hardcore dance music and Daft Punk is still way up on top. Reviews describe it as low-tech but good. I describe it as a record that had more thought put into it than 99% of others I've heard. It's intense. I recommend it all the time. Listen close, you'll probably hear it mixed in to the music at the techno clubs where you live. "Oh Yeah" is the worst song I've ever heard though. -Kyle6036@aol.com
Free Music Review: Five Stars--A Dance Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
If you're reading this, chances are that you've already heard all the hype and the rave reviews of this album. Often regarded as an essential electronica recording, it's not hard to see why: Daft Punk manages to make songs that sometimes have very minimal melody, or a minimally changing melody, yet they never seem to get old. From the pure house of "Revolution 909" to the catchy single "Around the World", this is a great dance recording, and a must-listen for all house fans. (as well as anyone else) However, for all people coming to Homework from Discovery, be warned: it's not the same. Many Discovery fans just turn down Homework because it's not as accessible, but neither are by any means bad recordings. Check both of them out.
Free Music Review: Best dance album of all-time? Hit: 5 Stars
If it's not, then it's gotta be near the top. Daft Punk's Homework is a masterpiece and despite what many people have said, there is NOT a single track on this album that isn't absolute perfection. Around the World, Da Funk, Hi Fidelity, Oh Yeah, Revolution 909, Burnin', Indo Silver Club, Phoenix...classic, classic, classic, classic, etc. Alive is probably my favorite song on the album, blast that song and you will go crazy. And I agree with what Y. Kim says about Rollin' & Scratchin'. Many people think this track blows but honestly this is one of the best songs on the CD, all you need is a little patience to appreciate it.
This is Daft Punk's best work, by the way...Discovery is almost as good but Homework beats it.
Free Music Review: A Classic Dance Recording: A- Hit: 5 Stars
Daft Punk's "Homework" is a house masterpiece. Often regarded as an essential electronica recording, Homework provides the hard-hitting club beats that are absolutely perfect for dancing, plus plenty of catchy rhythms and melodies to maintain the listener's focus. Although some songs have lots of repetition(especially on tracks like "Rollin' and Scratchin'" and "Rock and Roll"), most people who are used to the repetitive nature of house and other electronic music won't find it hard to stand. All in all, this is a very good release with many memorable tracks, but if you are new to this type of music (or if you expect it to sound like their other album, "Discovery"), look somewhere else.Rating: 90% Grade: A-
