The Dandy Warhols have brought us their best effort yet. After 3 years they release their follow up to 1997's "...The Dandy Warhols Come Down" with an even more inventive disc. After their hit "Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth" hit the radio, critics thoughtthat these guys would be a one hit wonder. After having a song featured on the soundtrack to the Oscar Winning Film "Good Will Hunting" their success could not end there. Not hearing anything from these guys in 3 years meant that they must've broken up or something along those lines. Nope! "Thirteern Tales.." features an array of their signature sound coupled with a newer raw sounding sound. With their previous albums being heavily processed it took away from what actually haappend duing the recording sessions. This time they bring songs reminiscent of their previous album in "Godless" and "Mohammed." The best song on the disc has to be their first single, "Bohemian Like You." This pop-like modern rock ditty is easily remembered and can even be memorized after a few times hearing the tune. With the shooting up the modern rock charts, it seems there can be no end to their success. Other songs on the album that are higly creative are the twangy sounding "Country Leaver" and the party song "Shakin'." Every song on the album rocks brings a unique sound to your ears. You could use the songs for eveything from background to your meditation or dancing in your living room. It's a great disc. Go out and buy it!!!

Free Music Review: A Breathless Listen Over Varied Rock Territory!
Hit: 5 Stars

After all of the other helpful reviews here, another hurrah might not be necessary for the Dandy Warhols, but I have no choice but to declare "13 Tales" as well worth the wait. The first listen through was breathtaking; this album is recorded with the kind of precision of production that classic songs deserve. The flow from song to song, in and out of tempos and lyrics give it a varietal theme. From the near goth-ness of "Godless" through "Neitsche" (which seems like a huge nod to Love and Rockets to me; listen to their album SWEET F.A. and tell me I'm wrong, here) to the down-home country flavor of "Country Leaver," this album is musically all over the place. But that is exactly what sets the Dandy Warhols apart from other newer bands; they have a certain style, but not all of their songs sound alike.

I do have my criticisms of this album, although they are small: Courtney Taylor-Taylor's "rap" on "Horse Pills" seems a little silly, and somewhere between "Horse Pills" and "Bohemian Like You," I seem to drift after a few listenings, but the album is well worth an honoured place in one's CD collection anyway. Courtney's voice is sexy, Zia's keyboarding is really retro, and Peter's wall of guitar sound sculpture is heavy and wonderful. This is an unforgettable album that most people aren't aware of, and I would recommend it to anyone who's been listening to the Rolling Stones or T-Rex in lieu of the recent alternative radio offerings.

Free Music Review: The Best Indie Rock Album I Have Ever Heard
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't give many five star ratings but this one completly deserves it. This album was my first from the dandies and is still my favorite after buying all of their albums becuase this one was so good. the album opens very soft with Godless and Muhommad(?). Both great songs in their own way. Possibly my favorite track on the album is Solid. it just gives you this feeling that I know I am sitting down listening to this, but I feel like dancing, and I don't even like dancing. the most distorition oriented song follows with Horse shaped pills. During the first few listens I thought this song was out of place because it is different from the whole vibe of the album.

My two least favorite songs on the album are The Gospel and Bohemian Like You. I pick the gospel because it is long and drawn out almost like leading the fans into the era of Odditorium of the Warlords. Bohemian Like You is a good song but I get tired of everybody saying that that is their favorite song off of the album.

This album is not one where you pick out a few songs for singles, like Capitol records did, but to listen all at once. this album changed my life and introduced me into a whole different world of music. A MUST BUY for any person who loves great Head-bobbin, Foot-tappin, High-Quality, Rock n Roll.

Free Music Review: 4 1/2 stars, one of the better albums from the 00's
Hit: 5 Stars

I probably can't add much more than what has been said about this album already, but it's almost a decade later (as of this writing), and I still find myself listening to "Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia" off and on. Long after many other hyped releases from 2000 are long gone and sold to the used CD store, this album still gets spins from me and still sounds fresh. The first three tracks are among the strongest opening on any rock album; in fact I've ripped them as one mp3 - they sound much better segued together as one song than as separate tunes. All of the other tracks are at least very good, many are excellent. To me, the weakest song is "Sleep", a sleepy, hazy rewrite of the second track "Mohammed". It's not awful, but a different sounding tune would have been better here. A 60's rock influence is very strong throughout, as well as parts of the 70's versions of Bowie, Iggy Pop and the Stones. Too bad the Dandies ditched this sound and came out with a series of other releases that were inferior. So far, they haven't come anywhere close to matching the consistency of "Thirteen Tales" on these subsequent albums. Newcomers to the Dandy Warhols should start with "Thirteen Tales", then work their way back to "Dandy Warhols Come Down", then pick and choose some singles from the later albums.

Free Music Review: The Last Classic Rock Album
Hit: 5 Stars

After waiting three years, the day has finally arrived. A new album by the Dandy Warhols, and quite possibly their best yet. Although it doesn't have some of the slow heavy psychadelic tracks from Dandys Rule OK and ...the Dandy Warhols Come Down, every song has unique qualities that make each one worthwhile. Basically, it comes down to one simple fact: this record rocks. The first track is "Godless" which is also the first US single, and it sets the pace for the album, always staying at this zenith of quality. Some of my favorites are "Country Leaver", "Horse Pills", "Get Off", and "Bohemian Like You", another of the album's singles. Even if you haven't heard either of the band's first two albums, you should buy this as soon as you can. The vocal harmonies are as tight and layered as ever, and the band seems to have gone deeper into arrangements, including horns and strings on some of the tracks and layering guitar, bass, and organ sounds more than on the other albums. The first few thousand albums pressed also contain a bonus disc, which includes "White Gold", "Phone Call", and live versions of the band's hit single "Not if You Were the Last Junkie on Earth" and "I Love You".
