I have always loved standup comedy, even before I was old enough to understand half of it. The idea of someone simply getting on a stage for an hour and talking away, all the while getting big laughs intrigued me. It was being a rockstar without the aggravation of dealing with 3 to 4 other people. In the 1990s, it seemed like standup comedy had hit a real dryspell (maybe just my opinion) but aside from the older, more famous comics moving on to "bigger and better things", the fine art of standup comedy was taking a major backseat. Thankfully, those comics that were getting their feet wet then are making a huge splash now and Dane Cook is one of these guys.Seriously, you couldn't ask for a better package than this one. Usually when a band includes a DVD in their new release, you get a measely 15-20 video segment or a few live tracks but Comedy Central has upped the ante considerably here by including Dane's Comedy Central Special as aired, that same special at hour length and uncensored and his segments on Premium Blend and Comics Come Home, totalling out at nearly 2 hours. The best part is that the DVD is an accompanying extra to his full length, uncensored CD that is the main attraction.
Dane Cook's humor encompasses a little of everything. He's not trying to gross you out with raunchy sex jokes. He's not offering up any biting political commentary. He's not offering up witty quips on the differences between men and women. He's not the white guy who poorly attempts race humor. Dane Cook serves on single purpose: to make you laugh any way humanly possible and not only is his approach fresh but it works wonders for him and the listener. His energy is unmatched in the comedy game today and his childish sense of humor attacks the immaturity in me.
I'm ecstatic to see standup comedy on such a massive uprise these days. Next to music, it's one of my favorite forms of entertainment. As long as these comics don't get fully sucked into celebrity side of the business and stick with what makes them so unique, there is hope for true, uncensored comedy after all.

Why you ask? 'Cause you'll need it to soak up all the pee puddles from laughing so hard. I first saw the Comedy Central special and said to myself "This is the funniest man alive - I wish a CD / DVD would come out" and GOD said - "I hear your plea sinner!" There is a GOD! and theres also a GOD of comedy and his name is Dane Cook. The fact that you can own this CD/DVD for [money]!? I mean C'mon! What's stopping you? I would have paid [money] for it and I know you'll agree. The only thought process that should be going on in your head right now is "Where is my credit-card?"Ok - for whatever it's worth I do have a helpful listening "tutorial" if you will for whose who have never had the pleasure of seeing Dane "in-person" whether live in a club or on TV. Watch the DVD first THEN listen to the CD and the CD will be even funnier - if thats even possible. Danes animated presentation is so refreshingly hysterical to watch but be warned that after watching Dane perform - you will be ruined for life as no other comics will be funny to you anymore - except for maybe Robin Williams... Anyone can throw out a few one liners and be funny, but Dane is FREAKING HYSTERICAL and thats an understatement beyond measure. In fact, I'm going to go now and listen to Danes CD AGAIN! while I work and accomplish absolutely nothing in the process...thanks a lot DANE you JERK! Dane, when I get fired, will you hire me to be your bottled water guy filler-upper person or something?

Oh yeah, and Dane... PLEASE, and I am literally begging at this point and I can't even believe it, but PLEASE come to Zanies in Nashville would you!? We don't all have red-neckish tendencies although I can't promise you a few won't show up... We are starved for someone funny out here... Killer Beez (sp?) 'aint gettin' it done around here... I beg of you...save us all...

Wow! How can I explain how amazing of a stand-up comic Dane Cook is. By far my most favorite comic! I first saw Dane on his Comedy Central Presents in like 1999 or 2000 or so.A half and hour special, that I laughed my balls off! And very time it came on again I sat down and watched it about every time it was on, about 10 times at least. Then I'm walking around Best Buy one day. By the good luck that I had that day, I find myself in the Comedy Section. I think to my self "Oh, it would be really great if they have a Comedy Central Presents CD of all the great comics that I've seen over the years!" I see "Dane Cook-Harmful If Swallowed" and then think " Oh my God, the best person that I saw on Comedy Central Present...Yes this going to be great!" I bought it in a heartbeat without hesitation, regardless of the price or reading the back or asking one of the normally clueless guys that work in the CD area. So I rush home and watch it for 3 hours striat! The DVD includes about ten minutes of his Premium Blend, about ten minutes of his Comics Come Home 5 and the whole uncut one hour Comedy Central Presents. I don't think I have ever laughed harder in my entire life, ever, the first time I saw it and till this day! Dane Cook WILL change you life! He is pure engery, especially on the DVD because you can see all of his visul extreme actions. Dane is kind of a combination of; Robin Williams, Carrot Top, Lewis Black, and add a bit of the craziest, wackest. drunk 25 year old college student you have ever seen! Dane is extreme and witty all wrapped into one. Please, I beg of you, listen to this. Listen to a friend's copy and then get in your car and RACE to the nearest place that sells it. I like to read user reviews before purchasing anything and I have to say, there aren't a whole lot here that I can really count on. You have two sides: those who LOVE Dane Cook and those who LOATHE him. The loathers of the group seem to think that all comedians should be insightful, political, have a real message. My love for comedy is complete. My tastes range from Dennis Miller, Lewis Black and George Carlin to Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Dave Atell. I LOVE TO LAUGH. That's all that matters. I'm not the most intelligent person in the world, nor am I the dumbest, but I don't think that liking Dane Cook lowers my IQ in any way. And something I found that I do with Dane Cook that I don't do with other comics...I repeat his jokes in my everyday life. His observations about everyday, random things are so dead on that when I come across those situations, I have to laugh and repeat a Dane-ism. If you don't like Dane Cook, fine. But don't belittle and disparage those who do. Everyone's tastes are different.
Those who LOVE Dane Cook are biased. Dane could do nothing but hum on his CD and they will think he's a "Genius". Do I think Dane Cook is hilarious? Hell yeah! Do I think he's the greatest comedian EVER? No. Do I think he's the funniest comic right now? I'd have to say...yes. I have watched Vicious Circle about 8 times in two weeks, so yeah; he's my comic of choice right now. And because of that, I will buy his CD/DVD's. I will buy his book coming out and I will buy Vicious Circle when it's released.
Free Music Review: GIVING COMEDY A PUNCH IN THE FACE

HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED is Dane Cook's debut CD, but you may have already seen him perform on Comedy Central. This CD also comes with a DVD that includes the edited and unedited versions of his Comedy Central special, and his appearance on PREMIUM BLEND. Dane Cook is one of the funniest comedians I have ever heard. He tackles issues in modern America and the things that almost everybody goes through. He gets what most other comedians miss... he gets those akward moments that occur in everyday life and all of those stupid things that people do. He handles our obsession with car accidents, being late, nightmares, tickling, childhood dreams, harsh realizations, and other aspects of life. Some people may not think he is funny, but I think he is hilarious. He reminds me of those interesting conversations that you have with people, and I try to say that as non-homosexual as possible. You see all of those moments in your life that make you self-conscious, embarassed, or plain annoyed, and just laugh at them. You listen to all of his stories and the way he puts those unspeakable feelings into words. I think he is one of those great comedians that sticks out and has the ability to become one of the most famous people in Hollywood. I don't know when it is going to happen, but I can feel it coming. This CD has 24 tracks, and is one of the smartest purchases you can make.
