Free Music Review: Quite Possibly One Of The Greatest Scores Ever!

I also had never been to an Imax theatre either. Well, from the first moments of the movie, this score just blew me back in the chair! And kept me there. It was all I dreamed would happen: the astounding IMAX photography perfectly married to the music score. The scene that grabbed me the most was the close-up of the helicoptor rotors coupled with a building crescendo of music that climaxes with the helicoptor flying through a huge canyon with the giant Himalayas in the background.On the Wow! scale of 1 to 10, that was an 11.

It's a fairly short score, but it was only a 45 minute movie, however, there is constant music all through this movie. By the end, I was in tears. This is one of the best (albeit short) movies ever made and definitely one of the best scores EVER! Where are these composers, Wood and May? Why haven't they done other films? They did not opt for a cliche' score whatsoever and perfectly incorporated the music of Tibet into a classical theme. They PUT you into the movie and into the great adventure like no other composer, Williams or Horner, have quite done.

If you have not seen the movie, buy it too, and you can see how the music breathed absolute life into the fantastic story of the 1996 Everest disaster, and recovery and triumph of those left behind to somehow summit. The music covers all emotions: the wonderful anticipation of climbing Everest,the horror and sorrow of those who died and the ecstasy of those who finally conquered the mountain. I cannot say enough about this score. I would have given it 10 stars.
