Free Music Notes for Charlie & The Chocolate FactoryFree Music Review: Perfect companion to the film..witty, quirky, strangely lovely Hit: 5 Stars
Danny Elfman has become one of the most proficient and prolific movie scorers over the past two decades, and few--if any--of his works top what he has done for CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Elfman has brilliantly captured and compimented the feel of the film with his sly, witty, innovative, quirky, and frequently gorgeous score. The various Oompa Loompa tunes are must-hear mini-masterpieces in and of themselves. The psychadelic "Welcome Song" is both subversive and instantly memorable...just try getting it out of your head. The "Main Titles" track is a powerhouse of sweeping, epic proportions, where Elfman pulls out all the stops orchestrally and throws in some sweet strings and sinister synths. The movie itself is well worth seeing repeatedly, and--unlike many movie soundtracks--this one will not only hold up under repeated hearings, but it actually improves. Highly enjoyable!
Free Music Review: Definitely on my wish list!! Hit: 5 Stars
My wife and I both went to see this movie yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. After hearing the music throughout, I've decided that I DEFINITELY want this soundtrack disc ... and SOON!! I've been so used to the orchestrated stuff that Elfman's been doing in the past with Burton's films, etc. so this was a rather unexpected (and pleasing) surprise to hear the man actually singing again for a change!! I actually smiled while hearing the various influential bands that permeated through the songs dedicated to each child - especially Veruca Salt's homage with elements of the Byrds, the Beatles and others. The song for Mike TeaVee was awesome, too, with leanings towards Queen and even Spinal Tap!
Excellent job, Danny!!
This one will most assuredly be within my music collection!!!
Free Music Review: Great soundtrack, fun and variety! Hit: 5 Stars
Of all Danny Elfman's soundtracks, this one probably has the most variety. It is also one of the most peppy!
There has been a lot said about the music, and I have only one thing to add.
Veruca Salt's song was NOT a Beatles or Abba clone. Elfman was imitating the classic 60's band, Crosby Stills and Nash. If you have any doubts, listen to Judy Blue Eyes or any of their other songs.
Brilliant parody/homage/rip-off whatever you want to call it! Queen's style was also evident in Mike Teevee's song, and I really wondered what some of the other bands were who were being parodied. Someone ought to organize a listing.
The only way the CD could have been more enjoyable would have been to have karaoke tracks for the songs! The end titles come close to that, but not quite.
Free Music Review: The trio of Elfman, Depp, and Burton does it again! Hit: 5 Stars
While the release of this soundtrack was delayed two or three days and I found myself anxiously anticipating it, I found the wait to be well worth it. When I picked up the CD moments after viewing the movie I was delighted to discover what it contained - the audio collage of the Tim Burton created world of the Amazing Chocolatier himself, Johnny Depp - er, Willy Wonka.
Everything included in the film appears on the soundtrack, including the upbeat, catchy opening tune and the Oompa Loompa songs that appear in the same fashion as the previous Willy Wonka movie. The music is snappy and cheerful, and proves to be one of those CDs you can play again and again, even if you get caught up in listening to the 'Main Titles' over and over again.
Definitely a must-listen, and a delightful soundtrack!
Free Music Review: Muy Fabuloso! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the best soundtrack or bit of work that Danny Elfman has done for years. Elfman had some fairly moralistic songs when he was with Oingo Boingo, as witness "Capitalism", "Only A Lad" and "Nasty Habits", combine this lyrical bent with Roald Dahl's hilariously moralizing lyrics from the book and you have four absolutely fantastic songs, "Augustus Gloop", "Veruca Salt", "Violet Beauregard" and "Mike Teavee". The rest of the soundtrack is great, it's a fantastic complement with the movie of course but it stands well on its own. The soundtrack is a great piece of music to have on your workout playlist, fast, fun to listen to and with a compelling beat that makes even white guys like me want to shake their bootys and wave their hands in the air like James Brown.
