Free Music Notes for Nightmare Revisited

Free Music Review: "Oh somewhere deep inside of these bones..."
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time when I was 10, sure the movie came out four years earlier, but now I am in my twenties and I love the story and characters more and more each day (I'm sure the fact that I have figurines of the entire cast of characters all over my apartment... With Corpse Bride scattered throughout... That almost every shirt and sweatshirt I own has Jack on it helps with the love) I have sheet music from the film (and am constantly playing the songs on my bass clarinet), three versions of the soundtrack, an original, a special addition and when I saw Nightmare Revisited I knew I had to have it too.
I was impressed at the interpretations these artists had with the songs. "Oogie Boogie's Song" by Rodrigo Y Gabriela, "Christmas Eve Montage" by RJD2 is a song I blast in my car at Christmas time while I drive around looking at Christmas lights. The Polyphonic Spree's version of "Town Meeting Song" makes me think I'm listening to the soundtrack to "Hair" or even a little "Rocky Horror Picture Show" but when I heard "Nabbed" by the Yoshida Brothers I had to check to see if I was still listening to the right CD.
Alright, there are a few songs where I prefer the original versions (Jack's Obsession by Sparklehorse makes my ears bleed), but a lot of them are just wonderful. It has renewed my love for Jack and the Nightmare he created in 1993. I'm not sure but I think all the contributing artists are fans of the film, and no doubt this album is a work of love for a curious film that has changed my life, and the life of other "emo" people before we were given that name.

However, if you are not a "hard core" fan then you probably wouldn't get this album. If you are a "hard core" fan though, buy this CD. And if you love the music of Mr. Danny Elfman and his voice and you haven't heard of Oingo Boingo 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Eco-Friendly Packaging) you should go and look it up on Amazon right now! Go!

Free Music Review: A review for the cd, not the movie!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a review for those of you that have already seen the movie and are now looking at buying the Nightmare Revisited soundtrack compilation.

The cd case itself was enough for me to buy this amazing cd. Although it is a cardboard case it is still very nice, It doesn't look like someone cut it out of a cereal box and slapped pictures on it like some cds do. Ahem. The case has lovely drawn pictures of some of the different characters including Sally on the inside and Jack on the front cover..
The pictures are surrounded by slightly raised pinkish purple designs, all cutely spooky and definitely done in the flavor of the movie. And to tie it all together it has shiny black webbing in the background. Whoever designed the cover art definitely had a taste for the theme of the compilation.

The cd itself has a wide variety of sounds. This cd sports an impressive rang of artists, from the ones you'd first think of to do do a cd like this.. to ones you maybe wouldn't. An example would be Marilyn Manson, who does the same song he had from the original soundtrack Special cd, a very impressive version of 'This is Halloween' to Rodrigo y Gabriela's version of 'Oogie Boogie's Song' with a very enjoyable Latin twist.
Also featured are the well known artists Korn, All American Rejects, Plain White T's, Rjd2, and perhaps my favorite, Amy Lee who does a wonderful version of 'Sally's Song'. Danny Elfman also does some voice work in the opening and closing.

Interesting tidbit: There are some very obvious typos in the artists' names.. GARBRIELA instead of Gabriela?? Poor girl. Don't know if its like that on every cd but on mine there definitely was!!

Adding new sounds to a classic soundtrack, this cd is a must have for Nightmare lovers everywhere. All in all this cd is a great buy, definitely worth the money.

Free Music Review: Timely update on a beloved favorite
Hit: 5 Stars

"The Nightmare Before Christmas" came out when I was ten years old, and both the movie and the soundtrack were pretty much on constant repeat until I was twelve in my house. The music was winsome and creepy at the same time, and never seemed as much a "traditional" Disney musical as a goth-punk rock opera.

Fifteen years later, the music is still every bit as enchanting to me, and a number of bands that I LOVE seem to feel the same way. DeVotchKa, Shiny Toy Guns, the Polyphonic Spree, Rodrigo y Gabriela and many other talented artists provide energetic updates to the lyrics and score. Standouts are Marilyn Manson's twisted take on "This Is Halloween" and Flyleaf's breathy rendition of "What's This?". Danny Elfman's "Closing" is a charming epilogue to the story.

In a world where Jack and Sally are stamped on tubes of lip gloss, throw pillows, shot glasses, and thongs in Hot Topics and Spencers the world over, it's easy to feel like "Nightmare" has lost most of its cultural relevance. "Nightmare Revisited" proves that this is not the case, and I can't wait to see what musical treats we might get in five or ten more years.

Free Music Review: Perfect Revamp Of A Classic Soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

Never was a really big Marilyn Manson fan. Never. I thought everything he stood for was grotesque and insidious and not in a good way. I always felt he was a scum-barking piece of trash. To hear him sing This Is Halloween was like pulling the shroud from a beautiful, but bloated corpse. Sick, but intriguing. That is MM. The fact that song was practically made for him goes without saying. Excellent choice. When you stop watching the horror and the hype and listen to the music, you will learn to appreciate what Manson does as a musician. Otherewise, you can view him as a scum-barking piece of trash. To him, I believe that is a compliment. Overall, Nightmare Revisited has some excellent efforts by some lesser known entities and it rocks out loud! Great stuff. Manson's song is the best, but there are a slew of gems hidden here and its great to hear new artists sing some old favs. This is classic. Nightmare.

Dig it!

Free Music Review: The name of the cd is PERFECT!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great CD! The songs are great! I am going to say when i got this i didn't even know who half these bands or people were! The only people i knew were, flyleaf, amy lee, korn, plain white T's, all american rejects, and rise against, just to name them! :] My favorite track, well i have 2 are sally's song & what's this! They really did a great job on this Album, they picked the right bands for the right songs! It sounds great! This is for any nightmare before christmas fan! You would love it! it really is "Revisited" Cause i heard these songs when they came out when the original movie came out on VHS, and it was a difference! I would recommend this to anybody! The price may be to much, but its still worth it!
