Free Music Notes for Nightmare RevisitedFree Music Review: Meh... not horrible, but nothing special either Hit: 3 Stars
Okay, so Nightmare is among my favorite movies of all time, and the music is completely vital to the story. As such, some of the songs on this remake/tribute album puzzled me; all in all, not horrible (at least, not completely horrible...), but nothing to get too excited about either.
The songs I did like quite a lot were Plain White T's 'Poor Jack', and Amy Lee's version of 'Sally's Song' (but, really, I doubt she could screw that song up if she tried). Unfortunately, nothing else really jumped out at me, and one track really rubbed me the wrong way: Flyleaf's unforgivable butchering of 'What's This?'... really, it was just inexcusable. They completely missed the feeling and tone of the song; what was the most fun and upbeat song in the movie (except 'Kidnap the Sandy Claws', of course), was turned into a depressing, slow drag.
Nothing else was totally offensive, but nothing was stellar either. Bottom line: this album is just... meh.
Free Music Review: If you didn't have to ignore certain songs Hit: 3 Stars
If it weren't for the fact that the bands they picked to do the majority of Jack's songs were horrible and completely massacred the songs the entire album would be outstanding. But this being so only "What's This" and the final song between Jack and Sally was actually good where it concerned the Pumpkin King. The rest of the songs are phenomenal especially Korn's remix of "Kidnap the Sandy Claws."
Free Music Review: Interesting Album... but not that great... Hit: 3 Stars
This is one interesting album, but the majority of it I disliked. Like many other reviewers (okay, maybe some) I felt most artists performing on this missed by a long shot. The only pieces I felt worthy were Amy Lee's rendition of the tragic ballad, "Sally's Song" and the instreementals. Most of the songs in the film had a weird, but singable edge to them. This album's a hit-and-miss.
Free Music Review: Great idea, some songs not so good Hit: 3 Stars
I love the idea of this CD, but I find myself skipping at least half of the songs. The songs that I don't skip are really great though, and they keep me coming back for more.
Free Music Review: Well... two songs were good. Hit: 2 Stars
I'm a big fan of the Nightmare Before Christmas so I was really looking forward to popping this in the CD player when I got it. Unfortunately, only two of the songs were any good. Mostly I think I feel most of the bands and recording artists are just not to my taste and I felt most butchered the songs from the movie. There are two excellent exceptions though. Marlyn Manson's This is Halloween and Amy Lee's Sally Song. Manson I'm not a big Manson fan but I really like what he did with this song. Better than the original version IMO. Amy Lee was a perfect choice for Sally's song and again, this version turned out better than the original. The rest of the songs on the album are boring though. The style, feel, etc of Nightmare just wasn't there. Amy Lee and Manson were obvious choices for a CD like this but I felt everyone else were just poor choices or wasted their chance (I'm not a Flyleaf fan but I was expecting A LOT more than what they did on "What's This"... absolutely horrible though). The instrumental pieces were quite good though.
Anyway, just buy the MP3s of This is Halloween and Sally's Song and then just buy the original sountrack for the rest of the songs..
