Free Music Review: Still Fresh and Exciting After 22 Years...It's Like We Just Met Danny Wilson

I was flying home from Hawaii in the Summer of 1987, after having toured parts of Asia. The six hour flight from Honolulu to L.A. was made so much more pleasant because I discovered "Mary's Prayer" on one of those airline music stations. So here it is 2009, and I wondered how other songs from Danny Wilson sounded. After hearing this CD, I am convinced that Danny Wilson sounds like, well, Danny Wilson! I am sorry that this group disbanded shortly after releasing "Meet Danny Wilson", because this is some of freshest pop music one is likely to hear, mostly in part because of the beyond-excellent vocals of Gary Clark. The songs are melded with catchy lyrics, hooks, and wonderful brass backgrounds.
Every song has it's own unique flair. Worth noting are:
"Davy"- puts a "smile on your face" no matter where you are
"Aberdeen"- upbeat, catchy, again great vocals
"Mary's Prayer"- one of the great pop tunes of all time, which deserves to be compared with such classics as "Your Song", and "Cherish". You'll be singing it for months, maybe years
"Nothing Goes to Plan"- jazzy and smooth
"Steamtrains to the Milky Way"- unusual with piano, brass, and Gary Clark's vocals.
"You Remain an Angel"- a ballad in every way and a lovely ballad indeed!
"Ruby's Golden Wedding"- an Irish wedding song replete with a complete brass section.
"Five Friendly Aliens"- Not to contradict myself, but a bit "Joe Jackson-esqus". Unusual and cool.
"I Won't Be Here When You Get Home"- Beauty in a league with "Mary's Prayer". A superb close to a superb CD.
Meet Danny Wilson: It's like meeting a new friend. You'll be glad you did!
