Free Music Notes for The Tension And The SparkFree Music Review: New sound for ex-Savage Garden singer. Hit: 5 Stars
I loved Savage Garden. I was thrilled to learn several years ago that though the band broke up, Darren was going solo. However, Spin--his first solo effort--was horrible. I fell away from his fandom for a long time. But the sophomore effort-The Tension and the Spark--is AMAZING. Granted, people looking for more of Savage Garden's sound are going to have to look elsewhere. The album pulses with elctronic beats that are a far cry from SG's pop sound. The lyrics are deep and moving, and sung with more emotion in one phrase then was present in the entirety of Spin. All in all, if you can live with the musical departure, it's an amazing album.
Free Music Review: Excellent album Hit: 5 Stars
This album shows a huge level of maturation over his first album. This album becomes far more musically complex. His electronic experimentation in the previous album becomes much less of an experiment and more of a unique genre in this album. The pop vibe disappears almost entirely from the album, though he includes a few ballads and accessible songs. What really stands out is the lyrical quality of the album. The lyrics on this album are second to none as far as I'm concerned, except perhaps his own lyrics on the next album. This album is not perfect, but close. I think anybody who enjoys the genre and vocal style will love this album!
Free Music Review: Absolutely Fantasmic! Hit: 5 Stars
As a long time fan of Darren Hayes (since 96' during his Savage Garden years), I have yet to be unimpressed with his work. Although I have had his cd since 2004, I haven't had the chance to praise his stuff. Not only is he a fabulous vocalist, but he has a keen eye for what sounds good these days. I think if I did not have Darren Hayes, I would lose my mind completely. Off his album The Tension And The Spark, my favorite songs are Love and Attraction, Void, Unlovable, Pop!ular, and I Like The Way. I just love Darren and I hope you will too. The Tension And The Spark is a must buy!
Free Music Review: Beautiful and Haunting -Get this CD Hit: 5 Stars
Like others have said, i just recently found this treasure, and wow, it blows me away. Darren has one of the best voices in the industry and it is a shame that this CD did not get released in the US on a mass scale. Darkness and Dublin Sky are standout tracks, but as you have heard, they are all great. I highly recommend this CD to anyone that liked Savage Garden or Darren's first solo release - "Spin". Also, he is releaseing a new CD in Summer of 2007 that is said to be a Double CD . Be on the look out for it as i have heard he will be releasing it himself on his own label.
Free Music Review: Creative genius Hit: 5 Stars
Now Darren Hayes isn't the most well known out of pop stars these days but thats about to change. I got this album when it came out and i still have it in my cd player, don't expect savage garden love songs on this album. Grown up,sexy and unique hes moved pop into the 21st century and i love it! Songs like 'Unlovable' and Bonus track 'Boy' show Hayes lyrical genius, hes put his heart into this album you can get that through his A* vocals and rythem. The Tension and the spark is must for anyone with a taste for good music.
