Free Music Notes for This Delicate Thing We've Made (2 CDS)Free Music Review: Yay, concept album Hit: 4 StarsI am really enjoying this CD from Darren Hayes; I love concept albums, and I especially enjoy albums that have songs that don't follow the traditional verse chorus format and contain instrumental interludes, experimentation, etc. There are some songs like that, but not all. You need to listen multiple times to let this one sink into you. At least five. (Which I have done). It's also better to not listen to both CDs right after one another. I think that's something which hurts double disc albums; people listen to both CDs right in a row with little attention spent to the fine detail and it feels like the same record, all the same songs. And if you listen that way, it probably will (though, for the record, there are tracks that will definitely jump out at you; 'Bombs Up In My Face', for example). Make sure you've got the lyrics sitting next to you. I'll probably be listening to this one for the next couple months, very good album.
Free Music Review: the best ever from Darren Hayes... Hit: 5 Stars These 2 cds album really blows me away!!! I guess now that he is out of the closet and doesn't feel "pressured", the creative juices just flows and I totally enjoyed and still am amazed what this singer/musician could do. If you love electronica with a deliciously pop twist, then you will definitely enjoyed this.
While Madonna's "Ray of Light" is more to the spiritual side, this album
is the celebration of life(well, that's just what I humbly think). This is the new Darren Hayes, the more adventurous and more willing to explore this
world and to be free!
Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: The best Xmas gift, for myself I mean... Hit: 5 StarsBeing a Darren Hayes fan... these cd's surprised me.
Each cd could be sold separately and still make one great cd.
The second cd has more calm songs. The first cd is a celebration!!!
Indeed, this is the best buy I've made of an Darren Hayes related item.
I could hear: "Me, myself and I", "Fear of falling under", "how to build a time machine" over and over... and "Casey" I just love that song.
It's a very eclectic cd. And you'll enjoy listen to Darren new styles...
Free Music Review: Extremely disappointing... Hit: 2 StarsI was and still am a huge fan of Darren Hayes and of his solo career. However, his most recent effort, "This Delicate Thing We've Made" has rendered me speechless. And not in a good way. His last CD, "The Tension and the Spark" was brilliant, despite some forgivable flaws. But this new CD seemed to promise great things since it was boasting not one, but TWO CDs! I kept hoping it would get better each time I listened to it and it didn't. Although I'm a huge fan of electronica and synth pop and all that, the melodies on this record were uneven and all over the place. Almost everything came across totally disjointed. Nothing really made my foot tap, know what I mean? Aside from the simply amazing and the hauntingly beautiful "Who Would Have Thought?", the club friendly "Step Into the Light", the peppy driving with the top down track "On the Verge of Something Wonderful", and the nostalgically sweet "Casey", the rest of the record fell hard with a disappointing thud. After three or four listens, I was only humming those four tracks.
It made me seriously miss the collaboration of Darren and Daniel Jones. Savage Garden songs were always listenable--lyrically and melodically flawless. It's well known that Darren wrote the lyrics to all the SG songs and Daniel composed most of the melodies. Their combined effort was simply genius, and catapulted the duo into the pop music stratosphere back in '97 and again in '99. I fully appreciate and applaud the fact that Darren was able to move on and do other things. I get that. Really.
But this was an overblown disaster.
Free Music Review: Love this!!! Hit: 5 StarsI've always enjoyed Darren as an artist, but this is the next evolution for him. I Just Want You To Love Me, has become one of my favorite songs. At times upbeat and at times somber, this album covers all the bases. Love it!!!
