I must say that before Block Party, I was not a Dave Chappelle fan...for no other reason than the fact that I've never heard him perform, despite all the rave reviews I've heard about his show. I also had not read a review of Block Party, so I did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised, this was one hella great film, with great music and some funny comedy...so I had to get this CD. Although it doesn't have all the great performances at Dave's Block Party (specifically lacking the Fugees reunion and Kanye West), the CD is still great with the Roots providing the backbone to this outstanding live set.
This has to be the best live CD I've heard since the Three Pickers album...I'd recommend it, but I don't think the audiences for these genres overlap all that much.

I love this CD for its true and honest showing of the wide spectrum of Hip hop music. Often only one facet of hip hop music is played on radio outlets. These artist combined is truly a work of art. They perform from their soul, and all to often that is missing in today's radio outlets. No the sound quality of this cd is not perfect, but you can really feel the excitement of the performances. In the end I hope that this CD really promotes the changing of how music is perceived in media outlets. Music can change lives and hearts, and I love that each of these muscians use their gift to promote important social issues. And for that reason alone this CD is worth more than its weight in gold. It is about progress not perfection, and this is a work of progress.Free Music Review: buy the DVD!

...AMAZING LINE-UP!!....nowhere else have I seen THEM ALL peform at the same concert...I mean Mos Def, Erykah Badu, !!THE ROOTS!!, Jill Scott, Dead Prez, !!COMMON!! etc..Its a pity they left the Fugees out...but really and truly, its superb enough as is!..Im not sure the CD is the smartest option though, since most of the "fabulousness" is in the visuals plus there are a couple more songs not featured on this CD...Check out "You got me" - The Roots ft Erykah B and Jill Scott....the best performance...by far!.Free Music Review: Dave's Block Party

I wish I could have been there at the actual block party, cuz daaaaang, they had fun. The CD is great too. The only thing missing is the last group to come out on the stage... Yes, The Fugees. I was in tears, they are so beautiful together. So I'd say the only thing I didn't like about the soundtrack is, that song shoulda been on there too. The rest of it was as great as the movie itself. The CD is an excellent summary of the live performances in the movie. The only disappointment are the performances not on the CD. Now I have to figure out where to get some of my favorite performances in the movie.
