Free Music Notes for Hourglass (CD/DVD) AlbumFree Music Review: Is the Hourglass half full or half empty? Hit: 2 Stars
I have been a Depeche Mode fan my entire life and I go way back with the band. I buy everything that is even remotely related to them. Dave Gahan's solo work seems to be little more than collections of songs that Martin Gore must have absolutley vetoed during DM sessions. The songs on hourglass are produced well but to me they are so dark that I really have to wonder at this stage in his life where Dave continues to dredge up all of the demons, pain, and negativity. I mean what is with these song titles?
Use You
Insoluble
Endless
A Little Lie
Down
I would think that after all of the substance abuse and termoil that Dave has been through, that at this point in his life to find himself older, wiser, clean, continuing to put out amazing records with Depeche Mode, being the frontman for a now legendary, seminal, and highly regarded band, still possessing good looks and a full head of hair, Well, I would think his songs would sound more like "Daydream Believer" than some kind of Trent Reznor heart attack on a plate.
If you buy everything up like I do then add this to your collection but much like Martin Gore's solo work, there is just something missing when the two of them work alone. Why all the anger and sadness Dave?
