Free Music Notes for Paper MonstersFree Music Review: great work Hit: 5 Stars
Though I expected Dave to "rock out" a bit more on this solo effort (thinking he had plenty of opportunity to explore ballads with Gore) I was pleasantly surprised to be won over by the ethereal work on this disc. It is melancholic yet hopeful. The songs are deeply thoughtful and evoke a range of emotions through smooth vocals and a nice balance between "traditional instruments" and the usual technology.Having followed Depeche Mode for so many years, one can only hope that Gahan's set list for his tour is half as interesting as Gore's recent shows in L.A. Creative reinterpretations of the classics while presenting the new material makes for a highly interesting night out on the town. Solo artists like this have the opportunity to bring an entirely new experience to their most devoted fans. Something tells me that Gahan is making that happen.
Free Music Review: Monster's Ball Hit: 5 Stars
Lots of listeners will be disappointed upon realizing that, either: a) this album is too much like DM and therefore not the surprising departure you'd expect from a solo outing; or b) this album does not have DM's unique, twisted point of view and is therefore not worth your time. BOTH WRONG!! Dave has produced a cd with a quirky sense of humor, catchy, simple song constructions and, of course, his matchless vocals. This collection has charms that you wouldn't find in a DM product - mainly, that it doesn't take itself so seriously. At the same time, it is laced with bluesy basslines and blue-eyed soul.
Free Music Review: Dave still Rocks! Hit: 5 Stars
As a avid Depeche Mode, I was both horrified and excited about Dave going solo. I was horrified with the thought that Depeche Mode might be done. I was excited to get some new tunes. After buying the CD and listening to it -- I am very impressed. This is classic Dave. The album has some hard licks and some soft tracks and really rocks. Dave is coming on tour and you better believe I will be there. This CD really is classic Depeche in sound and voice. If you are any fan on Depeche or the genre of music, buy it immediately.
Free Music Review: Long-Overdue Accomplishment Hit: 5 Stars
Despite the fear of owned breath and the threat of carbon's gnashing teeth, Gahan successfully, and powerfully, catharted years of abysmal despondency and docile servitude to Gore into a melodic masterpiece combining experiences of pain and love with humor into 10 5-minute packages wrapped in ethereal whispers and blue hearts. Tracks like I Need You and Dirty Sticky Floors are hooked and polished enough for MTV playand certainly for club play.Paper Monsters is a long-overdue accomplishment well worth your time and money.
Free Music Review: EXCELLENT! Hit: 5 Stars
As a long time DM fan, I bought this album before I heard it. All of DMs fans have waited a LONG time for a solo effort from Dave, and this is it. It will definitely please any fan, but if you're new, you won't be disappointed. There are edgy songs (Bottle Living - which has a "Personal Jesus" feel, and Dirty, Stick Floors) and M. Gore inspired ballads (Hold On, Stay) that will please long time fans and bring in more. If your new to Depeche Mode, start with Music For the Masses, but then buy Paper Monsters!
