Free Music Notes for Busted StuffFree Music Review: Finally! At Last! Hit: 5 Stars
When the Dave Matthews Band said that they were scrapping an album they were working on, I wondered will the material ever see the light of day. I am not trowing punches at there last album "Everyday". I own it and love it. But It certainly sounds a lot different than all there other albums. I bought Everyday on it's release day and always wondered about the Steve Lillywhite material because in the paper I read that the names of the songs that were scrapped were "Grey Street", "Grace is Gone" and "Bartender". And now those songs have finally after nearly two years have finally come to life. I pre-ordered "Busted Stuff" since May and is right now waiting for it to arrive to listen to what was put on the shelf two years ago. Dave Matthews is much better writting the songs all by himself than writing them with someone like Glen Ballard and they sound much better recorded at Dave Matthews's place than in Los Angeles. Also the album cover is a much better album cover than the Everyday album cover. The Everyday album cover just shows the band standing on a dock on black and white. The Busted Stuff album cover shows the band on colorful street walls. I have been buying Dave Matthews Band albums since 1997 and not just their music is great but so is their albums covers. Busted Stuff will definely bring back the respect the Dave Matthews Band deserve but how much it will it sell has yet to be seen. The Dave Matthews Band is releasing an album they hate but are doing for there fans to show they have heart and every song has to have a life. The album title says it all.
Free Music Review: Opinion of a new fan... Hit: 5 Stars
Well, I'm reading mixed reviews and I can't let that stand in my way of giving this album a five star review. I own no other DMB albums. I have a few live versions of Crash, Satellite, etc.. I'm familure with their more popular material, but I bought Busted Stuff primarly because I love "Where Are You Going" off the Mr. Deeds soundtrack and figured there had to more songs like that, where that came from... I was right! I don't know what everyone is complaining about, because the songs on this album, every song here, is excellent. I have a hard time making it though most songs today, once you get the verse and hook in the chorus, it's the same thing over and over.. not here! Instead I find myself resisting the urge to touch the track advance button, and actually waiting in the car till the playing tracks finishes if I make it to my destination before it ends when playing in the car. I suppose I should give some specific examples of why I like the songs, all I can say is Dave's voice and this kind of music just match perfect. It works, maybe it's not old DMB, I wouldn't know.. I don't care... I do intend to look into their other albums, just because I'm so blown away by this one... The Grace IS Gone is probably my favorite track, mixing an almost country-rock sound with DMB's own unique style, followed by Where Are You Going, Digging A Ditch, Grey Street Big Eyed Fish (sounds Beatles influenced in the Sgt. Pepper kind of way). The album has a billiant quiteness to it at times (Digging A Ditch) I hope I enjoy the rest of the DMB catalog as much.
Free Music Review: holy ... this one totally blew me away... Hit: 5 Stars
I never did download or listen to the Lillywhite sessions until after I bought this cd, because I like the band too much and respect what they do. So I will write this review taking it for what it is, with no comparisons to the lillywhite sessions (since, really, no one should have ever heard these songs before anyway). These songs have incredible power lyrically, especially with Grey Street. It's definately my favorite song on the album, some very powerful and poetic words. Grace Is Gone is also very poetic. It's a beautifully written song about a subject that really isn't so beautiful. Musically, Captain is my other favorite song on the CD. For those who don't know anything about music theory, it will sound oddly compelling, like you can't quite figure out what it is about that song, but you just like it anyway. For those who do, however, all I can say is...Wow!! It takes balls to attempt something like that and a hell of a lot of skill to pull it off. Well I could write pages and pages about each one of these songs, but I don't have the time...Suffice to say, to all of you Lillywhite fans who don't approve of some of the changes in these songs, THE LILLYWHITE SESSIONS WERE NOT FINISHED!!! If you were ever meant to hear them back when they were written, these changes, or changes like them, would have been made anyway! Also, I remain strong in my opinion that Dave is the greatest poet of our time, and it is only made more evident with this new release from the Dave Matthews Band. ROCK ON!! Love, Luck, and Lolipops!!

This is a breath of fresh air. As someone who completely fell in love with the unreleased Lillywhite Sessions, I found this CD wonderful if only for the increased quality vs the bootleg .mp3s! Try listening to "Grey Street" from the new album next to the Lillywhite Session .mp3; you'll breath a breathe of bliss too. But it goes beyond that; the songs have been refined, which to me means it has lost a certain amount of the live, raw feeling of Lillywhite, but has gained clarity and even strength. It's really a game of give and take comparing the two; i'm not about to throw away the Lillywhite Sessions, and conversely I'm not going to let it stand in the way of accepting this new, now official, offering. Standing on its own, this album is pure excellence. One of the greatest DMB albums, next to Under the Table and Dreaming. A great improvement from the previous effort. Greatest songs for me are Grey Street, Raven, Captain and Bartender. The bonus DVD is a nice addition (also nice that it's not included in the price, which is fair because it is rather short), two songs from a Colorado concert. I'd much rather see them live in concert, but I wasn't lucky enough to catch them this time around. The DVD is a semi-consolation. If you loved the Lillywhite Sessions, you really should shell out the 15 dollars or so for this album; even if you don't like what they've done with the new album, just pretend you bought the old one. For a band that can create music like this, I think it's worth it to support them.
Free Music Review: Funked up masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
This has got to be one of the best DMB albums ever. This follows Crowded Streets w/it's great groove, and fantastic jams. For those of you who only listen to "Crash" and "Everyday" this might not be your album. This is an album for people who like things other than pop, it's true grass-roots DMB w/o any outside influences. Best songs:1.Bartender One of the less touched up since it's lillywhite days. Fades out w/ a great flute solo by Leroi. It's the newest classic tune, very good. 2. You Never Know Steffan on ORGAN!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT? This blues-funk gem just makes your hair stand on end during the chorus, it's like Nancies, just that uplifting. 3. Big Eyed Fish Shakespeare put to music, great lyrics and good music. One of my fav's from Lillywhite 4. Captain Changed from being a melancholy commentary to a seductive crush-like jam, same notes, different words (sometimes), and different chorus for those of you familiar with the LS version 5. Raven COMPLETELY REWORKED. It needed it and it's such a great song now 6.Kit Kat Jam No words, just jam. It's like the funk your work up on your own. 7. Grey Street Classic 8. The rest of them. They're all such great tracks, the whole album is worth listening to. The singles "Where are you going" and later "Grace is Gone" are great songs, but not the only ones. This album ranks up there with Crowded Streets on my list. DMB fans rejoice, this is the band in their purest form, WITHOUT GLENN BALLARD!!!!
