Free Music Notes for Live at Folsom Field - Boulder, ColoradoFree Music Review: DMB at it's best! Hit: 5 Stars
The Dave Matthews Band has made it's living off of releasing a few studio albums and letting loose on the stage. Their concerts are world-renown for the atmosphere, the stage, and of course, the musical virtuosity displayed by each member of the band. Greatness is continued in the newest installment of DMB live albums.Live at Folsom Field is arguably the best DMB compilation that has ever been released. It appeals to the casual listener (The Space Between, I Did It), to the old-school DMB fans (Watchtower, What Would You Say, Ants Marching, Warehouse), and to the hardcore Dave fans (JTR, Big Eyed Fish/Bartender, Angel). For two and a half hours, DMB draws you in, takes you to new places, and brings you back to your seat over and over again. Live albums allow you to see DMB in their element: Musicians with their instruments, jamming as hard as possible. The imagination of Dave, Stefan, Carter, Leroi, and Boyd bleed in each and every song, forcing you to do nothing but listen in awe. This is not an ordinary concert experience. DMB has an ability that most bands do not have: They seize the moment, capture your soul, and never let go. From the opening explosion in "Don't Drink the Water" to the frantic, heart-stopping close of "Ants Marching," this band turns one regular night into a night that thousands will always remember. If you're fan of music, this is an amazing buy. People get tired of seeing DMB live albums being released. But you need to understand that DMB is a live band. The studio constrains them and you unfortunately cannot hear the best of DMB. The live show gives these 5 out-of-this-world talents a platform to show the world the musical gifts that they've been given. DMB does that and more on Live at Folsom Field. This album is truly a demonstration of music at it's best.
Free Music Review: The Matthews Band and their New Installment Hit: 5 Stars
The Dave Matthews band has been fufilling the holes in music lovers hearts with their original songs and intense live performances for about a decade now. They lift the soul with what it needs: Happiness, Good Times and of course Love. What DMB is most known for is their occasional live albums. They give the listener an ear of how DMB sounds live. And the newest installment of the live set is no execption. The album inhabits 21 tracks and over 2 and a half hours of music. Familar songs consist of the sappy lover ready song "crash" which proves to be the groups most popular single. It also contains the usual live tracks "Ants Marching" and Bob dylans "Watchtower" which has been concidered a revised masterpiece. The most impressive additon is the 15 minute "Angel". The song breaks off into accounts of soul singers spilling their voices as much as dave does. Most of the songs on the album are newer in the dave genre. Songs such as "What you are" and "The Space Between". The cd also contains tracks from revised internet leak "Busted Stuff". The only real dissapointment was the absence of guitar great Tim Reynolds. Dsispite that obvious mistake, the Album cries perfection. The crowd even seems to agree with the interactions on the song "Warehouse". It seems that no matter how old the band is getting, their live stylings only grow in substantial ammounts. This album is by far the best live album so far for the group. It is a must for any DMB lover.

Solid date from the DMB covering a lot of their newer material (at the time). I enjoy this album very much and I am a fan of the "Everyday" album. The ladies backing Dave up on some of the songs add a really cool vibe that is different from any other live DMB effort that I know of. Look for them on "Angel," "Everyday" and a great version of "Stay (Wasting Time)." Other stand outs are "Crash Into Me," "Two Step" and "All Along The Watchtower" not just because their DMB staples, but because I think you'd be hard pressed to find better versions of these songs. I also think LeRoi(Saxophones) plays particularly well on this recording. A great addition to any DMB fans collection.
Hey it might not matter to most of you, but this bugged me and I thought I'd set the record straight. S. Grgas "thelittlecroat" wrote a review and in it he wrote -
""All Along the Watchtower" Another version of this Dylan classic? Yes, but this time it doesnt close the show. A little different placement in the setlist is nice and Dave hits a electric guitar solo in this version! Almost worth the price of admission alone"
As a guitarist and a Dave fan I thought I would point out that Dave didn't play an electric guitar solo, he was clearly on acoustic during this song and the keyboardist used a distorted electric guitar sound for his solo. So sorry if you couldn't care less, and you're welcome to those who found this helpful.
Free Music Review: Better Than Red Rocks? Maybe! Hit: 5 Stars
I got this the day it was released on Nov. 5. I have to say, it is close to being DMB's best live CD to date. There is something about the thin Colorado air that makes DMB's music sound so complete and beautiful. DMB managed to get in at least two songs from every commercial album---even Busted Stuff. And you can't complain when song's like Warehouse get the crowd to WHOO! between the syncopated drum beats at the beginning. Sure, I'm a little biased being a fan for almost eight years, but really, this album is unique enough from anything you have heard before. Buy it, you will not be disappointed!... P>Disc One: Dont Drink the Water (awesome keyboards by Butch Taylor), JTR, When the World Ends (better than the cut on Everyday), So Right (ditto), Big Eyed Fish, Bartender, What You Are, Crash Into Me, Everyday, I Did It, If I Had It All.Disc Two: Angel (the lovely ladies rock on this one), Warehouse (the fans go ballistic at the beginning), Recently (with the Some People Do intro), Digging a Ditch, What Would You Say, All Along the Watchtower, The Space Between, Stay (Wasting Time), Two Step, Ants Marching 21 songs. That should last you until they release their next album in another year or so!
