Free Music Review: DMB on FIRE!
Hit: 5 Stars

I just want to first say that nothing could ever compare to actually having been at the show (which I was), but this CD comes so close it scares me. I pre-ordered my CD/DVD set so I got it a few days before the release date. I had already had the show on CD (from a taper) and I was expecting the official release to be nothing short of over-produced and dead. Boy, was I wrong! The second I popped in Disc One I was immediately returned to September 24, 2003...some 20 rows away from my favorite band...only they weren't a band...they were the music. This CD captures every exciting moment from that night and it makes me ecstatic that I can relive that night whenever I want. The boys were on fire that night and I don't even know where to start when it comes to describing them and the absolutely incredible music they performed...
Disc 1*
Don't Drink The Water--A song most everyone knows from radio play...but that night this song was just absolutely incredible. The intro (with Butch on keys) will just send chills down your spine...and the whole rest of the song is just absolutely amazing!
So Much To Say--Another radio-friendly song that most everyone knows. It's great live (when you're there) because it's so much fun to dance to and feel the music at the same time. And then the segue (Anyone Seen The Bridge?) into Too Much. OH MY GOD (that's all I can say about that! lol). I mean, how hot is it when Dave just scats like crazy?! (LOVE IT!)
Too Much--So much energy between the boys on this one..it's incredible!
Granny--Love the Davespeak before this one...fits very well. This song is just really good no matter what :)
Crush--One of the best DMB songs no matter what...but this one was awesome with the jamming. (They did a lot of it that night)
When The World Ends--Ehhh...not a fan (minus the part about `burning one` when the world ends)...soo yeah.lol
Disc 2*
Dancing Nancies--This intro kicked more ass than a kung-foo fighter. Definitely a crowd-pleaser (as can be heard by the screaming fans!)
Warehouse--One of my fav live songs because of the stop-time intro with the `wooos!` This song is so full of energy and it gets the crowd pumped!
Ants Marching--Always a fav! Another crowd-pleaser just BURSTING with energy!! Having the crowd sing the `people in every direction...` part is always cool too. (Thank you Dave for that privilege!!)
Rhyme & Reason--Not really a slow one but it definitely does bring the crowd down a bit (still a great song at that though)
Two Step--This version of Two Step was so incredible I could not deal (made up for the horrible one they did at Meadows 8/31/03). Stefan's intro will give you the chills. And then Dave's altered intro is incredible as well (`100,000 friends`). I love Butch's `New York, New York` interpolation also! This song is definitely another crowd-pleaser...full of energy and definitely a great song to dance and go crazy to (all 18 minutes and 56 seconds of it!)
Help Myself--When I was there I was probably the only person in my general area that even knew the song. But it's all good. It's a great song that is very nice live.
Disc 3*
Cortez the Killer--Great song that was played so incredibly well. Only beef I have with it though is that it looked like Dave was reading the lyrics as he sang it (as is noticable in the DVD as well) and that bothered me just a bit. But still done really well. Loved it :)
Jimi Thing--Alright, alright...this song is just awesome no matter what, but with Dave's scat (known as `The Central Park Scat`) and the `For What It's Worth` interpolation, it is just THE BEST version I have ever heard. The boys were on fire on this one...and Dave looked so crazy while he was doing the scat (you could tell the crowd was lovin' it!!) And then thanking everyone (NYPD, NYFD, the fans) was awesome. If I had to choose one song from this CD that I had to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be it.
What Would You Say--Always fun to hear this old one live. Done very well that night and you can feel the energy through this CD version.
Where Are You Going?--Slowed the crowd down but it's still well-recieved (gotta have it in there somewhere!)
Watchtower--Yeah, so it's on every other live CD DMB has, but this one is just incredible. Stefan was really let loose that night and his intro here was kick-ass! Star Spangled Banner...hello, how necessary was that?! :) And to hear everyone singing along to it was chilling (too bad it is not apparent on the CD)
Grey Street--Always a fav..the guys play this so well live (even though they took out a verse!):(
What You Are--Great Intro...could have done without this song, but the energy felt in the crowd during it was awesome!
Stay--I love when they end with this song! It makes you just not want to leave! Plus, word is that this wasn't on the original set (our `one more song!` chants must have got to them..hah)...so the fact that they did a 3rd song in the encore was just kick-ass!

I recommend that you get this CD no matter who you are. This is what DMB is all about, and you can FEEL it in the CD. This is REAL music...you'll appreciate it more than you think.

Spread the music... </3

Free Music Review: The best live installment from DMB
Hit: 5 Stars

This cd is absolutely amazing. It is only my second DMB live album, and I have been lucky enough to go to a Dave Matthews concert, but this cd is just amazing. Here's a review of all the songs:
Don't Drink the Water-This is a great song. It is even better live and this is no exception (also good on "Live at Chicago 12.19.98) 5/5
So Much to Say-An incredible live DMB song. It won a Grammy for best rock performance in 1996, and it should have. 5/5
Too Much-Once again, So Much to Say flows into this song via Dave's amazing yet weird vocal improv. This is a great live song, but don't underestimate it's studio version. It's good too (Crash). 4/5
Granny-Surprisingly this song was not released on a studio album, but instead three live ones. Whatever. Still a great song. 5/5
Crush-One of the best DMB songs. Stefan (bass guitar) plays great in this song, and Boyd(violin)'s solo after "or am I dreaming?" is great. 5/5
When the World Ends-OK here it is. This is a very good DMB song. It is good live but not in New York 12 days after September 11. Not a good idea. Good anyway. 4/5
Dancing Nancies-One of my favorite DMB songs. This live edition has Boyd playing awesome solos, and is just good. 5/5
Warehouse-The second best DMB song ever. It has an AMAZING guitar (Dave) part, and is just great. LeRoi(saxophone)'s solo was great, and if you have "Live at Chicago" then you know that that little lick was sort of mocking Crash. Great song. 5/5
Ants Marching-The best DMB song ever. This IS the best version of it. I don't care what anyone else says. Dave letting the crowd sing the line "people in every direction/ no words exchanged no time to exchange" was great. Everyone was great. Incredible. 5/5
Rhyme and Reason-Pretty good song. It has a nice guitar line, and it is one of the only songs on this cd that the band doesn't go into a jam session, which can be good or bad depending on how you lood at it. Good lyrics though. 4/5
Two Step-The third best DMB song. This song has amazing lyrics and is definatly the best of Carter (drums). This is just plain amazing (even though the crowd's clapping caused Stefan to get off tempo, which caused Dave and Boyd to, but they went way uphill from that.) 5/5
Help Myself-I am a huge Dave Matthews Band fan, but I have NEVER heard this song. Ever. It's a pretty good song anyway, but it just seems weird on here. 3/5
Cortez, The Killer-Here's where the band gets some help (not that they needed it) from Warren Hayes of Government Mule. This is a pretty good song (but if you didn't notice it's not by DMB). Electric guitar is amazing. It kinda sounds odd to hear Warren's lower voice change to Dave's medium, soothing voice. Good song though. 4/5
Jimi Thing-This song is awesome. It is incredible and is the fourth best DMB song. It has good solos, good lyrics, once again, good electric guitar. The band pulled out the chorous from "Everybody Look What's Going Down" and this is a great song anyway. Fabulous. 5/5
What Would You Say-Great live version, with Dave really going all out on guitar, with LeRoi going all out on his solo, and this is a good DMB song anyway. 5/5
Where Are You Going-Pretty good live. Like Rhyme and Reason, no jam session here, but a pretty good way to get the whole band involved. 4/5
All Along The Watchtower-Great cover. Just an amazing Dylan cover. Better on "Live at Chicago". Great though. 4/5
Grey Street-Fabulous. Sadly, Dave COMPLETELY skips a verse, which is bad ("there's a crazy man outside my door"). Other then that, this still a great song with a great tune that you just have to dance too. 5/5
What You Are-Great studio song (Everyday) but better live. A good melody combined with good lyrics, and once again, no major jam session (like the incredibly long ones-Jimi Thing, 11 minutes; All Along the Watchtower, 8 minutes). A good song though. 5/5
Stay (Wasting Time)-Great song. Good (once again) on "Live at Chicago". A 2 minute jam (with riffing words and sax tunes) ends the song, and leaves the crowd chanting "one more song, one more song" (listen closely).

If you are wondering, here are the top 10 DMB songs:
1. Ants Marching (Under the Table and Dreaming)-and this
2. Warehouse (Under the Table and Dreaming)-and this
3. Two Step (Crash)-and this
4. Jimi Thing (Under the Table and Dreaming)-and this
5. #34 (Under the Table and Dreaming)
6. Big Eyed Fish (Busted Stuff)
7. Bartender (Busted Stuff)
8. Grey Street (Busted Stuff)-and this
9. Everyday (Everyday)
10. Dancing Nancies (Under the Table and Dreaming)-and this

Basically, the three best DMB cds are this, "Live at Chicago", and "Under the Table and Dreaming". I highly recommend them all. Thank you for your time.

Free Music Review: Best Live release since Live at Chicago
Hit: 5 Stars

This live CD from the Dave Matthews Band is one of his best live CD's out there. He releases at least one live CD every year if not more and this is one of their best. The band pours their hearts and souls into each and every song. Dave Matthews was originally born in South Africa but moved to the United States when he was 3 years old. He and his band members started to perform in the early 1990's. They played all over the country at college campuses. Soon, their reputation as a great live band spread to music companies. They officially signed a record contract in the mid- 1990's and have released 6 albums and many live CD's.
"Don't Drink the Water" is a very good version and the long intro is classic Dave Matthews Band. "So Much To Say" is very upbeat version and well played
"Too Much" opening instrumental is awesome! "Granny" is a slower paced song that settles everything after the two up beat songs. "Crush" is another slower placed song that has amazing lyrics and slow jazz sound. "When the World Ends" is a first time live song, and it is much better than the studio version. "Dancing Nancies" is a good long instrumentals that is incredibly soothing when combined with Dave's voice.
"Warehouse" is a song that sends shivers up my back when it begins and is a great song.
"Ants Marching" is the bands biggest hit. It is very energetic and upbeat. "Rhyme and Reason" is the third upbeat fast moving song in a row. The horns are amazing in this song. "Two Step" lyrics and sounds are very inspirational and is great rendition of the original studio version. "Help Myself" is another first for a live CD, and is also has inspirational lyrics. "Cortez, the Killer" is played with special guest Warren Hayes. It is not a Dave song, but is an amazing duet between the two legends. "Jimi Thing" is also played with Warren Hayes, and his electric guitar brings a new sound to an old Dave song. "What Would You Say" bring you back to just the band playing. The song is fun song to listen and sing along with. "Where Are You Going?" is where Dave slows things down with this great love song. "Along the Watchtowers" is so powerful live you get goose bumps just listening to it on a CD. "Grey Street" is a great up and lifting song with a very good instrumental performance. "What Are You" is one of Dave's darker songs that draws you in as you listen. "Stay (Wasting Time)" is a great closing song. It is very upbeat, and puts you in a great mood as the CD comes to an end.
Overall this CD is amazing. I do not know of another band that is able to combine the sounds of jazz, soul, rock, and R & B all into one sound. This is why I think I like them so much. They don't just center around one music type, they experiment and have created their own sound. This CD just shows all the sides of the Dave Matthews Band and I found it impossible to just skip to a song and go to another. This is a must have.

Free Music Review: History Lesson Fools!
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me take a gander at the type of person who wrote that insensitive review about how neither Dave Matthews or Louis Armstrong have any talent. I'm guessing they like rap. I also guess that they are either Black or Hispanic, Now If your not I will get to you later. Now I have a few words that suggest your stupidity. Jazz became popular in the early twenties. The basis of good music back in the day was jazz. Now if you know anything you know that Racism was a big problem back in the day. Before you say anything snide or stereotypical about jazz, you must first listen to it. I take it you've never tried listening to jazz. You just know the basic musicians of the very complex art of Jazz. Here's some foggy ones possibly. Have you ever heard of John Coltrane? John Lewis? Charles Mingus? Thomas Taylor? Medeski, Martin & Wood? Huh? Well then let's talk some derivitaves shall we? Name one derivative of rap music? Funk.Well actually Jazz came before Funk, but I bet you didn't know who started funk? A jazz trumpeter by the name of Dizzy Gillespie. He began mixing up different Harmonics and Rhythms. Then adding different instruments he created a new sound with a new tempo called Funk. You must not understand where you are from if you say Jazz sucks and then say Rap is cool.Who wants to hear about B(*&^@'s and hoes. What about real hip hop like Cunning Lynguists and Blackalicious? Anyways, this review is coming from a 15 year old kid who is a musician and is surrounded by fellow musicians in his household. I could make your head turn with the things I could do on the trumpet! I could hit pitches and notes you've never even dreamed of! SO before you dish on the beautiful and complex art that only true musicians can acheive greatness in, learn some more about it.
Now to the review! This is another great DMB CD fans. I highly reccomend it for one reason: Disk 3. This disk includes Wasting Time, Grey Street, What You Are, All along the Watchtower, Jimi thing, and Cortez. This disk is amazing, has amazing solos and improvising techniques that would blow your mind! Something with substance is not someone muttering whiny hateful words on a screaming guitar while having the person next to you wear a creepy mask while screaming god knows what into the microphone. Substance is not the same 3-5 chords in every song over and over. Substance is clever lyrics, rhythm, and tempo. If you don't Like Dave you must at least appreciate the talents of Stefan,Carter,Boyd, and Leroi. So forget anyone who says God doesn't love DMB fans!

Free Music Review: music fan from ny/nj is an idiot . . . DMB "always" rocks!
Hit: 5 Stars

Regardless of the setlist, Dave Matthews Band always plays their heart out, and they give 120% at this concert. "music fan" from new york/ new jersey metro area who wrote on Dec. 29, 2003 is a complete fool and is too critical of the fact that they play the same songs and a bunch of small little things that don't even hurt the 3 cds of pure enjoyment.
First, I would like to mention the highlights: "Jimi Thing" is awesome, "Two Step" is awesome, "Cortez the Killer" is sweet, "Help Myself" is groovy, "All Along the Watchtower" adds a beautiful intro, "Dancing Nancies" also with a nice intro, and then some.
Second, I'm still mad at that music fan from ny/nj metro area. How can you say that this concert was "bad?" From your tone, this concert is very disappointing, and frankly, you're a fool. One, there is hardly ever "long" breaks inbetween songs, and even if there was, who cares. Two, the crowd doesn't play a factor at all in the songs, except for "Warehouse," but even then it doesn't matter. Three, when Dave talks, it's funny. You make it out to be annoying, and you are wrong again, and I know other people agree that when Dave talks, you know he has something interesting to say, and it's never annoying. I myself am a die hard DMB fan, and I can't believe you when you say this concert is disappointing. How can you not like "So Much To Say" into "As Anyone Seen The Bridge" into "Too Much"? What makes "PNP" to "Rapunzel" any better? Oh, and "Ants Marching" What is wrong with "Ants Marching"? It is ALWAYS an upbeat fun song, and I don't see how this version can disappoint a die hard fan like you. Finally, casual fans should buy this cd, but also "Crash" is a fine pick up as well. "Listener Supported" is all right, but I don't think it measures up to Central Park. Of course, Red Rocks is the best live DMB, but this one comes very close because of its energy and emotion. "Unless you were there, don't believe the hype" is a terrible thing to say. I suggest the music fan buy the dvd for some clarification. Hey, I'm reasonable, so if you want to argue, I'm more than happy to give you my opinion: Dave Matthews Band rocks, especially when you see them live. It's great.
