Free Music Notes for The GorgeFree Music Review: After all, a good Lie in Our Graves live version!!! Hit: 5 Stars
There is not that much to say:
1. This album is great because it tries to cover songs that are most of the time left aside in live performances (like Song that Jane Likes, You never Know, Everyday, kit Kat Jam, and so on)
2. It contains a nice dvd that comes along with the two equally satisfying CDs.
3. Here's the main reason of having/loving this album : LIE IN OUR GRAVES. This 17 minits version is amazing!! this was a song they never quite got well in show, the special atmosphere of the quiet part was always not as intimate and emotional as on the studio version. But this time, THIS IS IT!! Everyone is at the top of their skill, and the piano part is very well introduced.
4. Other standouts:
- Song that Janes like: good energy, it is beautifull and not too long, just enough to wonder why they don't play it more
- You never know : i just realized this song is good listening to this version.
- Evryday : the sing along is not annoying, but really fits in the atmosphere created. Pretty different from the original, but real nice, alotough somewhat low-key.
- Warehouse: Good version. Energetic, tight, without never-ending jams.
The only disapointing part is:
Two Step is way too long, way too improvisational, way too annoying after a few minutes of drums only. Skip it,I reckon.
Bottom line : I think this is my fav DMB live with Live at RedRocks (which is THE classic, by the way).
Free Music Review: The Gorge is A Beautiful Venue and DMB is a Hell of a Band!! Hit: 5 Stars
Dave Matthews Band never disapoints with every live CD they have ever released. I have been a huge DMB fan for about six years now and I have to say the music never gets old. They come out with something new up their sleeves every night and this compilation of their three night stand at the Groge in Washington state proves it, that yes DMB is the best band and that yes DMB is the best thing that has ever happened to music and Rock itself! Their music is just so unique and pure and full of life and vibrance that you can't not like them. The song selection for this CD put together by Warehouse members was right on! The Song That Janes Likes has and always will be a favorite of mine. Warehouse and Lie in Our Graves were just solid performances as usual, as well as fan favorites such as Two Step, Rapunzel, and Drive In, Drive Out. But I actually bought this package for the magical DVD because I had already ordered the six CD package that was availiable only on the bands website, I would reccomend getting the six Cd package to anyone who is really passionate about music and the love of it! It contains all the three nights performances and is around seven and a half hours long. I love it, highlights off of the nights would have to be What Would You Say, Grace is Gone, Grey Street, Ants Marching, #41, Rapunzel, One Sweet World, Loving Wings, Jimi Thing, Seek Up, and Tripping Music Review: They're ready to entertain and enlighten at the scenic Gorge Hit: 5 Stars
The sound and style of the Dave Matthews Band gets better with every concert, every studio release, every live performance, and they possess the uncanny ability to sound different every time they play, but always adding more depth to their musicanship without even trying. If any fan or even mere listener has never seen or listened to the band live, this CD/DVD set would be a great invitation to experience the energy this band puts forth to the stage. The two CD portion contains some of the best classics like "Rapunzel," "Song That Jane Likes," "Fool to Think," "Drive In, Drive Out," "Space Between," "Two Step," and "Lie in Our Graves," among many others. The DVD portion only illustrates the energy and talent this band brings to the stage. Performing at Washington's Gorge, one of the band's favorite venues, they bring many classics to life again such as "Dancing Nancies," "Seek Up," "Ants Marching," "Tripping Billies," and a terrific opener with "Grey Street." Whether you're listening to the CD or enjoying the DVD concert, you'll be engaged by how well these guys can bring many different sounds and varieties of music together. And if you're already familiar with the DMB as a live act, you'll only see and hear how each version of a classic they perform somehow sounds different and deeper than the last. Quite simply, this release demonstrates the magic that is the Dave Matthews Band.
Free Music Review: "Can't Miss" Entertainment Hit: 5 Stars
This is, without question, the entertainment value of the year. The DVD portion of the package is worth the price by itself, and the two CDs are both excellent. (For those who care, here's the breakdown of the track listing shown above: items 1 through 13 are the DVD [13 is actually the music video to Grace is Gone], 14 through 21 are CD 1, and 22 through 27 are CD 2.) The DVD tracks are pure electricity. This is DMB in top form, performing for a crowd that is one its feet from the beginning. It seems picky to mention, but I wish that some of the shots were a little longer; there are places where the shot changes so often that it's frustrating. Just as I'm enjoying watching one player the shot jumpts to another. It's of little consequence, though, since the quality of the performance is too good to support such quibbling. One viewing of "Tripping Billies," for example, will make this a treasured part of any music DVD library. The CD portion of the package is also excellent. Raving one about any one track would get boring, but the extended (17 minutes) version of "Lie In Our Graves" is a standout. Given the musical quality involved, 23 bucks is a fair price for the DVD. It's also a fair price for the CDs. Getting BOTH for 23 is a steal. Do your stealing immediately.
Free Music Review: a disc set that has grown on me Hit: 5 Stars
my first listen of this disc set left me disappointed, but after a few more listens, i have developed a fond liking to this album. songs that stand out for me are "the song that jane likes," "you never know"(i didn't like this version of the song in the beginning, but this version is actually pleasant to listen to), "granny"(i love this version), "gravedigger," "everyday/#36"(i loved this version right away. the audience makes this track great), "two step"(this has become my favorite version of this song. i love the extended jam sequence at the end), "drive in, drive out"(not my absolute favorite version of this song, but still a highlight on this album), "the space between"(never really liked this song, but this version is nice), "kit kat jam," "proudest monkey"(this has become my favorite version of this song. outstanding), and "warehouse"(not my most favorite version of this song, but i like the audience in this version). overall, a great album to own. i like how the dvd has songs not repeated on the audio discs. this dvd is not my favorite dmb dvd that i have seen, but it has great songs.
