Free Music Review: Excellent but not perfect
Hit: 4 Stars

Another addition to the Live Trax series, this set captures the energy DMB exuded on the 2006 tour, with a host of new songs in their repertoire and a successful new album only a year old. Great energy, nice long jams more reminiscent of the DMB of, say, ten years ago than the post-Everyday DMB that seemed to favor playing more (and thus shorter) songs at a show. If you're new to DMB, or at least new to collecting their live recordings, this is great place to start.

My only complaint is a rather technical one. A problem that has plagued the Live Trax series, as well as live releases like The Gorge (and renders that one well-nigh unlistenable to my ears) is that the mix is off. What I mean is that Dave's vocals are very prominent in the sound mix, and tend to drown out all the instruments, especially Boyd's violin. This is hardly an archive recording from their early days at Trax in Charlottesville, so there really is no excuse. It's only slightly annoying on this recording, and, frankly, if you're not particularly tech-savvy, you might not even notice, but I did, and it's what kept me from giving Live at Fenway five stars.

Free Music Review: Excellent, but not new
Hit: 4 Stars

I am a big Dave Matthews fan, and have always really loved his shows, and while this CD provided a good amount of classical material, it doesn't provide much new. The three new songs are ok, but not exciting. If you love Dave live, you will enjoy this group of CDs, but if you are looking for some fresh DMB, you might be a little disapointed...

I was not...
