Free Music Notes for Weekend On The Rocks [live CD & DVD]Free Music Review: Dave almost at his best Hit: 4 Stars
I liked the cd for the most part. Dave Matthews Band has their own music genre. Nothing like them. This, however, wasn't my favorite Dave CD. Since it was live, Dave got a little caught up in the moment, and I don't like how he strains his voice a lot in this cd. Still pretty freaking awesome though.
Free Music Review: Does Anyone Know? Hit: 4 Stars
For those of you that have this CD/DVD, does it have copy protection on it? I bought it for a Christmas present for my husband, and he doesn't want to open it if he can't transfer the music onto his MP3 player.
Free Music Review: Get it for the CDs Hit: 3 Stars
I've been a DMB fan from the beginning. After purchasing every release available from this band, I have to say that the live recordings of these songs are great. "Bartender" is chilling, it includes their cover of "Time of the Season", and even "American Baby" stands out. However, as far as the DVD is concerned, I was rather disappointed. There are rare moments when I do get those chills ("Louisiana Bayou" is particularly impressive), but the overall over-the-top energy that is usually present in the band's previous DVDs is overshadowed by the "yawn-fest" induced with songs like "Dreamgirl", "Everybody Wake Up", and the one song that is featured in nearly every single live DVD put out by this band..."Crash". I love this band, and I hold tight to the belief that it's not their decision to put out such lukewarm releases. Hopefully they'll get more of a say next time.
Free Music Review: Great shows!, but the best aren't on these CDs Hit: 3 Stars
Simply put...went to all 4 shows that weekend, loved it, but several of the songs on the 2-CD set were not the best from that weekend. This 2-disc set has some great stuff on it, but some should have been put aside (Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd, Everyday)in favor of others (Intro to American Baby-9.9.2005, Exodus-9.12.2005. Lie in Our Graves-9.11.2005). No disrespect...this is some of his best live stuff, but I recommend getting the 8-disc set from the DMB website. Some songs are repeated on different nights, but no song is played the same twice. Definately worth the extra cash!
Free Music Review: Good not great. Hit: 3 Stars
I've been a Dave fan since "Remember Two Things" was released back in '97. I have just about every live cd and dvd ever released and a few shows off the internet. I was not too impressed with this one. The cds are pretty good. They made me appreciate those Stand Up songs a little more. The DVD was boring. For us Dave fans, we know, a Dave show is not boring. The songs that they chose on the DVD are lacking in the Dave energy. If you want a good DVD, get the Central Park Concert. It is far superior to this one.
