Free Music Notes for Live at Luther CollegeFree Music Review: Innovative, genuine, and essential Hit: 5 Stars
Innovative, genuine, and essential I have listened to this band for a long time with friends and oddly I have heard all the songs on each CD enough to know which ones I like the best, but I had never actually owned a CD. If any band deserves my money it is this band. I find the songs to be so genuinely good and it feels so right to listen to it, like it holds hands with the soul. Now music is great and there are so many kinds, but this really is what music is. Take into account this CD throws away the high tech equipment and technology used in editing, and all the usual elements that go into making a commercial product. Instead sit 2 people on a stage with 2 guitars and try to equal this, it is impossible. It is the trace elements in this CD that make it better than the studio CDs (and believe me, I'm not really one of those who prefers live over studio very often), and I venture to say it's as good as any CD I've ever listened to. The songs included on it are more than enough to justify 18.00, and when you buy it and hear it, then you'll know you've really gained something special.
Free Music Review: I'm dissapointed with some of you Hit: 5 Stars
For anyone out there who thinks this album is not one of the greatest guitar albums ever produced, I ask you to listen to it closely once again and try to reproduce some of Tim Reynolds picking on songs such as "Stream," and "Tripping Billies." I think the fact that some of Dave's songs sound similar to his studio songs speak wonders for his ability to play well live and in the studio. For anyone who thinks he has shallow lyrics, please take a look at some of the music out there today before you say things like that. Dave Matthews is simply one of the best musicians of the 90's, and even though some of the songs on this album do sound better with the rest of his band backing him up..consider the fact that he has only two guitars and his voice, and look at how much energy he creates with just these three items. For anyone that gave this album less than a four, I ask you not to be so shallow when you listen to music, for if you truly listen to music for the quality involved, you will see what I mean when I claim this to be one of the greatest guitar albums ever.
Free Music Review: YOU CANT FIND A BETTER CD....EVER! Hit: 5 Stars
Untill about a year ago I really didnt know any of Dave's music. But I was introduced to Dave's music because I am an avid guitar player. I have almost all of Dave's cds now but this one by far is the one that I always find my self listening to. Dave's talent combined with Tim Reynolds' is just something that will just leave you speechless. And Tim Reynolds performance was unsurpassed by anyone I have ever heard. When you listen to this cd you can just float on the music and let it take you to a place that is so peaceful. But then again it can get you excited. This cd is a great cd for any mood you may be in. I listen to this cd many times a day. I really dont know why I have bought any other cds after I got this one. The performance by these two great musicians should be recognized widely which it is not. I urge you to buy this cd. You will not regret it, I PROMISE! And when you have experienced how great it is, share it with a friend and spread the word so one day these two wonderful musicians will receive the credit they deserve. Keep up the great work Dave and Tim!
Free Music Review: The songs, music, stories, and some great DaveSpeak. Hit: 5 Stars
This CD was a great cd from track one through 23. Dave really out does himself. His ability to improve lyrics and outros along with some new and extremly dave-like DaveSpeak. He opens with a crowd pleaser, One Sweet World, and works his way to some well know songs such as Crash and Satellite. But to make this CD even better is that Dave and Tim don't just play studio songs, they mix up old stuff and new stuff. Deed is Done is a personal favorite along with Stream, Say Goodbye, Halloween, and Two Step. Dave's partner, Tim Reynolds, is something else too. He is the best guitarist i've ever heard. He can make up solos on the spot like nobody else. The only weakness in the setlist was Satellite and Crash, but that was easily made up for by the outstanding vocals on Typical Situation and Ants Marching. Dave uses many voices on this CD unlike many other singers. The way he can sing soft or loud, or kind of an inbetween one makes him very original. All together, this CD was very musical enjoyed, as well as humorous, and it makes you wonder could Dave have been anyone other then him?
Free Music Review: It's good to be recorded in front of a live studio audience Hit: 5 Stars
Hearing this album, I only wish I had been live at Luther College. There's a spirit of playfulness and genuine fun about the performers which easily translates onto the CD and lets the listener know that these guys have the greatest jobs on the planet. You can tell, especially on tracks like "Little Thing" and "Ants Marching", that they genuinely love what they do. Not only do they frequently joke with the audience, but they take their music along decidedly frisky pathways. Their music soars with an improvisational ease in which Dave Matthew's voice is as elastic as Tim Reynold's guitar. I've read in other reviews that this album is, perhaps, only for Dave Matthews fans, but I would have to disagree. This is a fine album to start one's appreciation of Matthews. The connection they were obviously able to make with the listeners at Luther College is infectious: you can't help but like performers who were so entirely adored by their audience. Of course, it doesn't hurt that they're able to play like the devil harboring a speed habit, either.
