Free Music Notes for Live at Red Rocks 1995Free Music Review: They Rock at Red Rocks! Hit: 5 Stars
Even a live recording of the Dave Matthews Band is an ideal way to be exposed to their immense talent for the first time. This is an early recording of the group, a live performance during the summer of 1995 but further proof of how great they sounded as a live act from the beginning years. Most of the material contained here are songs from their major debut, Under the Table and Dreaming, but they do include songs that were brand new and being tested at the time, and that would eventually turn up on 1996's Crash like "Two Step," "Dive In, Drive Out," and "Proudest Monkey." There are also songs the band recorded very early on before they had a major recording contract like this show's opener in "Seek Up," one of the band's best tracks and this thirteen-minute version is a spectacular performance with smooth horns, throbbing bass lines, and Tinsley's humming violin solo that leads into Matthews' agonizing vocal. "The Best of What's Around," is like rock being fused with jazz, and "Dancing Nancies," is intense, explosive, and relentless in the way the band jams out with a climatic ending. Plus there's "Lie in Our Graves," "Ants Marching," and concluding with a tribute to the late Jimi Hendrix with an amazing version of "All Along the Watchtower." The whole set list is awesome considering how early a recording this is for the band. Another thing that makes this release so unique is how the Dave Matthews Band brought back the whole concept of recording and releasing live albums for the commerical market, and reminding music lovers how we once loved the idea of having a live concert in our living room.
Free Music Review: DMB Nails The Groove Hit: 5 Stars
Unlike Listener Supported, DMB hits a groove in Seek Up and stays with it throughout the whole CD. Unbelieveable guitar playing by Dave and Tim, Boyd was tremendous on the violin. Carter (as usual) was amazing. I have been to two DMB concerts, one of them front row, but have never heard a band nail a groove like DMB does here. Seek Up- Nice way to begin. Again, they nail the groove in this song and keep it for the rest of the show. Proudest Monkey- Great song, great riff. Satellite- One of the best Satellite versions. Two Step- Better than the album version...This song is always better with Tim... BOWA- Great song! Listen to Carter's work on the drums. Recently- Cool intro and outro, and not too long. Lie In Our Graves- The jam in the middle of this song is totally awesome. Dancing Nancies- Cool beginning, best Nancies version out there Warehouse- Nice, but the Listener Supported version is better Tripping Billies- Great song, one of the highlights of the CD DIDO- Dave fools around with the lyrics on this one, still sounds great Lover Lay Down- Nice break from Billies and DIDO, Carter is again great Rhyme & Reason- A lot better than the Listener Supported version, more up-tempo #36- Best song on the CD, Carter does another killer solo for the intro Ants Marching- Pretty standard, I personally like the UTTAD version better Typical Situation- Dave does a nice job here by himslef Watchtower- Listener Supported version is better, but the Tim solo almost makes up for it. You MUST buy this CD! It is worth the $.
Free Music Review: a must for daveheads and concert goers Hit: 5 Stars
Unlike the other dave matthews band cds, this cd features the electric guitar played by friend of the band tim reynolds in almost every song. This addition adds for flavor and edge to the songs. (isn't edge what all those new bands are lacking today) and the red rocks amphitheater acustics helps enhance the flavor. Anyway, the cd makes a great start with "seek up", a lesser known song but one of the best on the cd, and then flows into "drive in drive out", an edgy tune that can be played by no one else but dave, and ends with carter beauford playin the hell outta the drums. Skipping to the last song of this double cd, "all along the watchtower". Some of you hendrix and bob dylan fans might recognize this title, but would probably not recognize the tune as it's done differently by dave. He starts out slow, then hits hard with the line 'all along the watchtower princes kept their view....' This song will make u just sit back and say, 'jesus christ' as it did for me. To close out this review, i would just like to say that i know that different cds appeal to different people in different ways, but i just really think that this could make a lasting impression on the non dave fans. i let people who never really gave dave chance listen to this cd and they fell in love. I assure you, this is a tolerable listen and will leave you reasonably entertained!
Free Music Review: Excellent! Hit: 5 Stars
WOW! I recently bought this album and I'm blown away! The first time I heard it I thought it was good but not as good as the reviews said, then I listened to the whole album without stopping and I was amazed at how good the Dave Matthews Band really is. If you've only heard the "Crash" version of of "Drive In Drive Out" or "Proudest Monkey" then you're in for a real treat with this album. Some of my favorites are "Best of What's Around" "Ants Marching" "Dancing Nancies" and "Warehouse", but in all honesty there's not one bad track on either of the two disc's. The energy on this album is amazing! These guy's just don't stop! After listening to this I feel like I need to go out and buy "Under The Table And Dreaming" immediatly. I'd heard "Crash" from my brother and wasn't so interested in the Dave Matthews Band until I really started listening to it, then once I got hooked the dmb quickly became my favorite band. Once I got "Crash" I loved it but wanted to hear more of the dmb so, I got "Everyday" and thought was pretty good but not as great as "Crash", so it left me wanting more music from the dmb even more badly then before so I bought this album and I'm hooked for life on the Dave Matthews Band! I urge you to buy this cd. I promise you won't be dissapointed!
Free Music Review: Out of 7 Live CDs From DMB This Is The Best Hit: 5 Stars
This was DMB first real live concert release, not including "Remember Two Things" which was a mix of songs from different concerts. You can tell that they wanted the jam sessions that they were creating at these concerts to be released in the right way. I doubt that they could've picked a better concert.
This consists of songs from their "Under the Table and Dreaming" with a portion of experimental songs from their up and coming super hit album "Crash". You can tell that the album,"Crash", hasn't been released yet because the audience doesn't go crazy when they hear the intros of the songs. That still doesn't stop them from getting blown away with songs like "Tripping Billies" and "Two Step".
One aspect that makes this concert unique is the appearances of Tim Reynolds. He has been considered the 6th unofficial member of DMB, and his guitar work has been in many of their albums too. His playing is shown throughout the concerts on songs like "Satellite", which is probably the best version out there, and most notably his solo on the end of "Two Step". You can't go wrong with Tim's playing.
So look no further the best live album from Dave Mtthews Band, so far, is Live At Red Rocks.
