Free Music Notes for Live at Red Rocks 1995Free Music Review: Essential live cd for anyone's collection Hit: 5 Stars
I am ashamed to admit that I have just really discovered DMB in depth. I bought Under The Table and Dreaming when it was first released and never really gave it a chance to grow on me. I liked it but kind of threw it aside until recently. WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN!!!! Just recently, with the release of Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds, did I realize how much I enjoyed him. I am completely in love with that cd and wanted to hear Dave live with the rest of the band, so I went out and got Live at Red Rocks. I am completely amazed. I like it just as much as the Tim Reynolds album. Needless to say Under the Table and Dreaming has found its way into my stereo again and I also just got Crowded Streets, which too is awesome. Crash is definetly next. It's refreshing to hear such a talented band play such original music in this time of Korn and Limp Bizkit infested radio. I enjoy the way Dave sings more than anyone else in the 90s, with the exception of Ed Vedder. If you like DMB at all, go buy this album and DM/TR, and you will be happy for months to come.
Free Music Review: It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I really can't add much that hasn't already been said in the numerous 5-star reviews here. I have also seen Dave and Band live and they just blow me away!!! My "official" introduction to this band was hearing the beginning of the live version of "Seek Up" from this set at a friends house (before it got too far into it someone changed the CD!). I have since purchased all the Dave I can get my hands on! The live versions of "Seek UP", "Two Step", "Rhyme and Reason (One of my all time favorites)", "Typical Situation", and "Lie In Our Graves" are amazing. The only thing this set is missing is a live version of "#41" (which they did play at the show I saw!). Carter Beauford has left many drummer friends of mine drooling, and the rest of the band is equally amazing (especially some of the stuff Dave does on guitar while singing!). A Great introduction to a band that knows how to play live as well as a necessary addition to any DMB fan's collection!
Free Music Review: An extraordinary night of music-making Hit: 5 Stars
I cannot think of a better way to represent the live experience of a Dave Matthews Band concert than through this performance from '95 at Red Rocks. There are so many brilliant moments from each band member. "Seek Up" opens the program exceptionally. Leroi Moore is amazing on "Proudest Monkey" - even incorporating "Sunshine on my Shoulders" into his solo like an impassioned shout. Dave later sings the opening lyrics to that song in the intro to "Recently". Carter Beauford is as electric on the drums as always - specifically on "Drive In, Drive Out". The disc contains a lot of old favorites, including an especially good "Tripping Billies". "Typical Situation" and "All Along the Watchtower" are awe-inspiring encores that close out a special night of exciting and empassioned music-making by DMB. Tim Reynolds played with the band on this tour and this recording from it. A must for all fans and everyone else, too.
Free Music Review: If you get any DMB live album this is the one to get! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is the Dave Matthews Band live and at thier very best. It is their show at Red Rocks ampitheater in Colorado, on tour for the Under the Table and Dreaming album. It is a great set of material from this album, early favorites some unreleased songs and a couple of tunes from the not yet relaesed Crash album. The band is is in true form. Boyd Tinsley's fiddle playing soars, L'Roi moore's sax wails, Stephen Lessard's bass playing is solid and funky, Dave's guitar dances around within the songs, and the drummer extrodanaire, Carter Beauford plays the skins like he means business, driving the songs to the emotional and musical threshold. The songs never sounded better and more energetic. Although the 'hits" aren't all n here, it is must for fans looking to dive in to the heart of the band's sound and message. If you are thinking about buying a DMB live album, this "official bootleg" is the one to get, hands down. A classic live album from a groundbreaking live band!
Free Music Review: GREAT!! Hit: 5 Stars
This has to be the greatest live CD out there, for Dave Matthews Band and any other performers. The only live CDs that are close to being as good happen to be Listener Supported and Live at Luther College, which are also by DMB. This live compelation is simply fabulous. Everything is great. The highlights are Recently: Carter is great on the drums and the crowd is really into it, BOWA: is intense and the intro is great, Tripping Billies: the most "complete" song on the whole CD and of course Ants Marching: You can't go wrong with this song, nice little intro too. There are only two complaints I have about this CD and they aren't biggies: sometimes Dave messes around with some of the lyrics and kind of takes a little off the songs(Proudest Monkey and Drive In Drive Out) but the songs are still great. Also, Satellite is pretty standard nothing special. But don't let these things dicourage you, this is an amazing live Cd by one of the best performers out there.
