Free Music Review: Great CD, I wish it were longer!

Recently Edit 2 (10 of 10)- This song is very good. I absolutely love this song. The lyrics are so much fun, and I think this song is one of their greatest. It allows them to do so much with it live, such as the water/wine outro and the "some people do" intro. This song is clever, and the music is very good. This is a good version, and its a change from the 8 min version on "Remember Two Things."

Dancing Nancies (10 of 10)- This song is one of my all time favorites, and this version is no exception. I always thought this song might be weak without the whole band, and I was very wrong. It is just as spectacular, and actually towers over the accoustic version on "Live at Luther." This song is probably one of Dave's most creative, with clever, interesting lyrics. "Could I have been/a parking lot attendant." I enjoy what the song is about, and how it says that for every better thing you could be, there's probably something worse as well, and that ytou should live life to the fullest, not matter what is thrown at you.

Warehouse (10 of 10)- A nice, calm accoustic version of a song that is packed with power when played live with the whole band. It is very interesting to hear it in a much more calm fashion. It is very enjoyable. The version on "Live at Luther" is accoustic, but it still has too much longing to be in a stadium filled with power, but this version shows the potential it has without that intesity. As a listener, you tend to focus more on the lyrics than the music, and you realize it is a very good song.

Watchtower (11 of 10)- One of the best versions out there. It is filled with power and energy and the band really tears it up. I enjoy it because it is a precurrsor to the version that appeared on "Red Rocks" but the jam wasn't Tim Reynolds on the guitar, it's the band jamming. This song, in any version, shows the band member's full potential, and I love this song.

Halloween (11 of 10)- This song is one of my favorite songs of all time, and I really enjoy seeing that it is a lot older than many people know. Dave, when they hit it big, was known for their happy, upbeat melodies, and "Before These Crowded Streets" came as a surprise because it was so dark (when compared to other DMB material). Although the lyrics became a little darker on "Streets" you still can't tell what it is exactly about. Carter is spectacular on the drums. Dave's growls are even darker and scarier in this version, and the jam in the end is very great. My favorite song on the CD.

In conclusion, this five song CD is probably one of the most listened to Cd's I own. The music is great, full of power, emotion and potential. It is very cool to see this band back in the days before they were big and just how much potential they had, and how little they changed when they finalyl hit it big. They are, in my opinion, the best band in the world, and to trace their evolution over the last decade was great, and it started with this CD.
