Free Music Review: listen to his skill and then the songs

I have been listening to male singers for over 25 years and have bemoaned the loss of the level of skill that was once more readily available. Sinatra on ballads, Damone for tone, Darin for rhythm, Cook for style and so much more. I agree that David Archuleta's first album is targeted to his prime audience and that a few cuts are a bit heavy on the production side ( albeit with great recording studio skill ). For those of you, however, who like the art of singing, listen a second or a third time and focus on what David is doing with his voice. His phrasing, his breath control, his modulation during short phrases and his matching of the tone of his voice to the word is remarkable. On some songs , he actually alters the timber of his voice during a long note...listen to how he matches the word ( length of singing ) to the length of the note. Sinatra was wonderful at that so that he sounded like he was really singing words...not speaking them to music. Finally , David does not fish around for pitch...He must have close to perfect pitch and he always in the center of note..not sliding up to where he should be ..that permits him to be clear and to stay with a rhythm so well. On some of the upbeat songs he is using his voice as a musical instrument and not singing around the music. I know that it would not be sound business decision for an almost 18 year old but I would love for him to add a few standards that permit him to infuse emotion in the lyric and make some old songs new again. For example, his ' Imagine " will likely be the classic version for many young people going forward. David Archuleta has a rare gift and we should encourage him to use all of his skills to reform the modern definition of a performance standard.Free Music Review: Gotta love it!

I preordered David's CD after downloading 'Angels' from iTunes. I still think that that version of Angels is his best song yet - I went for the AI concert here in Tacoma, Wa - it was mersmerizing to watch him sing it.
Ok! So, as soon as the CD came I couldnt wait to see what he had to offer. I have to admit as I hurriedly skimmed all the songs, I thought they all had the same sound as the stuff thats playing on the radio. Hmmm...I thought just another run-of-the-mill teen crowd pleasing stuff. Then next day I was at work and having a particularly gloomy day with all kinds of dismal news you hear nowadays. Thought I needed a break. SO, I popped in David's CD and put on my headphones...and it was then I feel in love with the album. I was instantly drumming my fingers , tapping my toes and grooving to the songs - they were light, hummable soft pop/rock toones with a heartfelt innocence to them. 'Touch my Hand' is one of my favourites on the album - it just gets you foot tapping right away. I also liked 'Crush', 'Dont let go' which plays up his falsetto, the flirty whistling in 'Your eyes dont lie' , the ballad like 'You Can', 'To be with you'. Every song has something in it that makes you move....I cant explain it - it just made my day right. I was humming to myself at the cooler - I was feeling alright and cheerful by the end of the day and even got some good work done...good music always gives me a high. Just for doing that - making my day everyday- I give this album 5 stars - here's something you need to forget your worries and feel positive again. IMHO. Thanks David! Wish the lyrics were included!

I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to David's first album at home and in my car. I always feel great after listening to it. I especially love to listen to each note and phrase and how his sound is so rich. His voice can do so much and I will be waiting impatiently for Album #2 to be released.
The interesting thing I have noticed after reading people's comments is that a lot of the older fans want an acoustic sound (just David and piano or guitar)and the younger ones for the most part want all the trappings of the current music they get on the top 40 pop charts. And then you get the people who are wanting his ballads. All this after so many criticized him for singing ballads on American Idol. Well the good news is that David has it in him to give all of us what we want just not all at the same time. Many of his fans are willing to wait and look forward to small venues where there won't be the screaming girls and they think they will get to hear David. I don't know about that. Remember the Beatles? Those were crazy times with screaming like you wouldn't believe.
By the way, I am 55 years old. I am one of the older ones who recognize that it is these young people who need someone like David to show them what real music and singing can sound like and understand it will be David who will grow up with these young fans and give them a gift that no one else can give them.
Did I already mention that I love David for his VOICE AND FOR THE GIFT HE GIVES EVERYDAY and thank you God for letting me hear him another day. Yeah, I KNOW I HAVE BEEN BLESSED.

This album is amazing! I loved every song on the first try. I've had this CD since the debut and heard it constantly, but I'm still not sick of it! Usually it takes me a while to like a whole album and if I did, I'd get sick of it within a few weeks. I'm still not sick of the song "Crush" and it's been out for months! All his songs are pretty catchy. Not only are these songs great, but I think it's AMAZING because of his vocals. His pure voice is rare and beautiful.
Yes, this album is focused more on the teens/younger crowd, but I think there's at least one song that anyone can enjoy. This album has a variety of pop songs (not only focused on one type of pop). It's a bit of a tester album where you can see (maybe) what direction he may go in the future.
If you watched him on American Idol and was disappointed by him only singing ballads, this album is NOT only full of ballads, although there are some. And personally I think his ballads are beautiful! It really features how amazing his vocals are.
My favorites are Crush, You Can, A Little Too Not Over You & Waiting For Yesterday (although that song is sadly not on the main album). The bonus tracks are great so if you like the album, you should listen to the bonus tracks also!
Overall, I highly recommend this album. Give it a try if you haven't yet. This is a great debut!

Free Music Review: Fabulous talent--he makes my heart soar when I listen

First, let me say I listen just about everything. I am a child of the 70s, so my love of music starts there with Elton John, Led Zep, Genesis, to Joni Mitchell everything in between. I love Celtic music and Soundtracks and Blues. On the other hand, I don't watch AI. Except for the couple of shows I watched with DA. So, the day I drove our carpool and heard Crush on Radio Disney, I was intrigued that someone so young could be blessed with such amazing talent. The next time I heard it, I really listened, and that was it--I was hooked. What a voice. It's like you can hear his soul when he sings.
I bought the album for Crush, but immediately fell for all the other songs, especially Angels. I listen to this CD over and over, and each time it truly makes my heart soar.
I write fantasy stories, and frankly, when I listen to this music, I can close my eyes and it becomes like a soundtrack for my characters, it's just so universally touching.
And, I listen to this so much that I'm starting to embarass my 10-year-old. LOL
I can't wait to hear what this talented young man does next!!
