Free Music Notes for Grown BackwardsFree Music Review: "I'M GLAD!" Hit: 5 Stars
I'm glad David Byrne exists.
I'm glad he still believes in being loose in his creativity and emotions and that he is not afraid to use these things to influence him and inspire his art.
I'm glad we still have artists like Byrne around.
I'm glad there are still artists out there making music like this.
I'm glad Byrne is still going strong.
I'm glad this album was made. (...)I just wish some of the songs were longer with longer solos that explore even deeper haunting feelings. The songs are just aching for that. They deserve it. Byrne's craft makes it all valid however. He leaves you wanting more after every song. But still, this album does explore some interesting corners that force you to take deep breathes. (...)
The operatic songs are interesting. He is evolving. This is definitely his most organic and "sad" album-expressing his emotions in a much more personal form than in any other work he has done to date.
Favorite tracks are - "Astronaut", "Why", "Un Di Felice, Terea", "Tiny apocalypse" and "Empire".
Free Music Review: Great Album, Incredible Tour! Hit: 5 Stars
The album is great. Brian from Galway ("The people from Galway, they keep pigs in the hallway," Sorry, couldn't resist...) explained everything about the album.I am a graybeard who had been a serious Talking Heads fan since, "'77," and then went on my way. My albums gathered dust. Then I saw that David Byrne was performing in New London, CT. I went, expecting not too much. I was blown away! Tosca Strings, Mauro, and the bassist are incredible. Great new songs, and lots of Talking Heads. My TH vinyl is playing all the time now. You can't miss his tour, if it is nearby. I am going to see him again in Northampton, Ma. Tour info: http://www.davidbyrne.com/tours.html I just wish he would mention New London in his journal... Bicycling is good.

Okay. I own like three or four DB solo CDs. They are all pleasant affairs. I must say, they are not bad CD's, but they lacked the POWER in the music that this CD just breathes. The songs are all just very well made and his voice is just in great forum. There is a delicat balance that you can have between vocals and music, and sometimes you get too much vocals or vice versa, and lack melody, but this CD just gets them all balanced great. I highly recommend this CD, due to the simply great masterwork that it is. The Song 'Au Fond Du Temple Saint' will knock you off your feet. when I downloaded the CD from ITUNES, and played this song, my wife shouted from the other room 'WHAT SONG WAS THAT'.. it catches you. HAve fun
Free Music Review: First class pop music Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this album 2 days ago and find I can't tear myself away from it! It is full of diverse sounds and influences, fascinating lyrics, and great grooves. My tastes tend toward classical music and jazz generally, but this album is so well-crafted that I can't seem to turn it off. While Byrne's rendition of Bizet's famous duet from the Pearl Fishers (Au Fond du Temple Saint) is not the best I've ever heard, it is charming. Haven't we all sung along with a beautiful piece of music and been less than virtuostic about it, but been moved by the experience nonetheless? If you are a Byrne fan or a music fan at all, I'm sure you'll love this.

Don't hate David Byrne for evolving. Sure, we miss the big suit, too, and still get a little misty when we hear "same as it ever was." But do we really want to see David Byrne on some reunion tour along with Kajagoogoo and Bananarama? No. "Grown Backwards" is Byrne's masters thesis after years of musical exploration around the world He combines pop, world music elements, sexy rhythms and even classical
music into smart-yet-listener-friendly songs worth repeating. Think of it like an Impressionist painting for your ears. When Byrne duets with Rufus Wainwright on Au Fond du Temple Saint, you may even change your mind about opera.
