Free Music Review: David Cross -- The Next Big Thing
Hit: 5 Stars

Now, I don't know who Bill Hicks is, and I don't usually buy music that's not gospel -- but what I DO KNOW is that this comedy album is a sure-fire way to bring a family together on a Sunday afternoon before "Hour Of Power" comes on.

David Cross is best known for his role as plucky Donnie in two highly rated "Just Shoot Me!" episodes, and although he's only been doing stand-up for a short time, I'm sure he'll be a household name once middle America gets wind of his comic talents in "It's Not Funny." For 75 hilarious minutes, Cross touches on everyday life in his own, inimitable Gallagherian way. Nothing is out of bounds: child rearing, scissors, animals, and duck tape are all seamlessly interwoven thanks to his "Things that make you go hmmm," everyman brand of delivery.

"It's Not Funny" is a calavcade of chuckles, bound to please any fan of Carrot Top, "According To Jim", or "The Parkers". Concerned about the content? Don't be! David Cross finds a way to sprint home his point of view without having to rely on the left crutch of potty humor, and the right crutch of profanity. His DatPhanian approach to comedy will delight kids and adults alike, in any situation...whether it be the short ride to soccer practice, or a long trip to grandma's house.

My only complaint of Cross is that he didn't go into his "Chicken Pot Pieeeeee" bit from the "Just Shoot Me!" Little Donnie episode, but I was more than pleased with SubPop's "It's Not Funny." (Which is funny in itself, because the album is actually VERY funny).

Free Music Review: Can't... stop... laughing
Hit: 5 Stars

This album was in my Amazon recomendation, so I decided to check out the reviews. Now, I'm not a big fan of stand-up comedy, but if this album makes me laugh half as much as these reviews do, then this may the best CD... ever.

Lets begin:

"I don't think God likes this...,"
Well I happen to be a good friend of ol' Yahweh, and he's loves comedy. Who are you to say what he likes and dislikes, blasphemer?

"When Mr. Cross started in saying he'd rather hear the death rattle of his only child rather than the sublime sounds of Creed I immediately turned off the CD and burst into tears."

Burst into tears? Because some jerk you don't even know insulted Creed? Or perhaps its the joke about his only child dying, well to be fair, that kid is a brat.

"DAVID CROSS WILL BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!!!"

I hope that this review is a joke; as it is quite funny. G.W. Bush is the "best smelling president we've ever had"? I have always thought that he wears a bit too much Aquavelva, but that's just me.

"Our President would NEVER lie to his people, he knows it's a sin to lie!"

An american president lie?? Life as we know it would cease to be! No... I mean the exact opposite of that, life would continue as it has with every other politician telling bald-face lies.

Oh no... I think that I've written a review of the reviews.

To all my mathologists out there, no that was not a typo: On this Compacted Discus, David Cross gives us 120%! You know how people usually give out 110%? Well David goes that extra "step". ("step" refers to an increment of +/- 10 percentile)

So to re-cap:

120%, Mathologists, Compacted Discus.

I think it's funny that David Cross's initials are DC and I'm talking about a CD that was recorded in Washington DC...

You might be asking yourself "What is he getting at?"

Well, from what I gather, the world is made up of black and white... but here is the trick... black IS white, and white IS black. Yes, it is infinite. It goes on forever. I was able to learn this after listening to the CD.

So, in conclusion, buy the album, stay off the drugs.

P.S. My "fave" joke on the CD* is when he says "Bear hugs!? Who would ever want to hug a bear!?"

*You won't believe this but: Originally when I typed "CD", I had accidently written "DC"** but I meant CD!!! Isn't that wild!

**I did it again, but in versa-vice***!!!

***that should say "vice-versa". Sorry****

****that "Sorry" should actually say "I love the smell of burning babies".

butm?

Free Music Review: Having a baby isn't hard...
Hit: 5 Stars

After falling in love with programs like Mr. Show and Arrested Development, I was very eager to pick up David Cross's newest comedy release. I was not disappointed. This is a classic mix of political satire and social commentary. Some will say that it is very graphic, but I think that it is very real. The words that Cross speaks seem to be strong in today's culture and it is exciting to hear an artist speak his/her mind without remorse. I think that is what I really enjoyed about this album was that Cross really believed what he spoke about. You could tell from the way that he told his jokes to his interaction with the audience that he really wanted to make a change and show someone the idiocy of our nation.

From Trent Lott, to abortions, to even GW Bush himself, Cross doesn't hold back and the result is hysterical. For anyone new to Cross' humor, I would suggest this one to start you out instead of his earlier one. While it is very good, this carries a stronger structure and powerful observations.

Enjoy!

Free Music Review: Are we a nation of 6 year olds? Answer: Yes
Hit: 5 Stars

I knew David Cross from some parts in movies and of course in the best sitcom of the last 5 years: Arrested Development. I never knew he was a standup comedian until I checked his bio one time. And I was very surprised, he is really funny even though I didnt think he would be. In that way he looks a little like Steve Martin, who used to be a great comedian in the 70's.

He really knows how to work with words and like any good comedian shows everyday stuff in a new light. Electric Scissors, Paris Hilton, Restaurants, Meatbulbs and 9-11.

The political bits against rightwing conservatism are the best. His remark about freedom is great and could be used in a political speech. If the terrorist really hated freedom, The Netherlands would be dust...

The titles of the tracks on the CD are misleading (as it the title of the album). Very long titles of nonsense but very funny.
This album is great and guarenteed to make you laugh and look at things differently.
